Thinks that is some kind of food bin, I'll bet.
You can tell how much time I still spend here at this nest. I really love it. :rh:

Elaine, oh no. This has been such a tough year for this nestbut I know Mom and Dad can rebuild it before the season starts. I guess all the rain contributed to it’s collapse.

Oh gosh Kitcat, I feel so bad. They are saying it was probably due to the rain. I suppose it's a good thing it happened now though. I wish I knew how to post from Facebook but I don't know how to do it. Maybe someone else can.

From the Decorah North Eagle Nest Facebook page:
Storm Topples North Nest

We are very sorry to announce that the Decorah North Nest fell last night during a storm. We visited the nest today to assess the damage and look for Mr. and Mrs. North. Somewhat to our surprise, there were no freshly broken branches or limbs at the base of the tree or beneath the fallen nest. Given the high wind gusts and lashing rain that accompanied last night’s storm, we think that the wind blew the nest’s supporting branches off-kilter. The nest, which was heavily laden with water and slippery wet, plunged down between them. Once the nest started sliding, it was all over.

We’ve been asked if we’re going to build a starter nest for Mr. and Mrs. North. The DNN tree is a little tougher to work in than N2B, since the nest was cradled in branches at the side of the tree instead of built into a secure crotch. We are weighing our options and will be making another visit to assess the situation once our camera work on Lake Onalaska is done. We will advise of any options or plans once the tree is evaluated and our climbing experts and Board of Directors have a determination of how to proceed.

We did not find Mr. and Mrs. North, although the weather was stormy almost all day long and they may easily have been hunkered down under cover elsewhere in the valley. We are able to monitor the nest remotely via camera and will be watching and listening for them and checking on their status.

It's been a tough year for Mr & Mrs North, but we are all very thankful that it is the off-season for them and that there were no eagles in the nest when it went down. You may have questions, so please know that we will do our best to answer them, but in some cases we might not be able to speculate or give a definite response until our site assessment is complete.

From RRP on FB today ~~

9-3-18 ~ Update on Mr & Mrs North

We have had a few visits from Mr or Mrs North since their nest collapsed August 27th, but they have been at a distance while visiting one of their favorite stream perch trees known as T3 (Tree 3) above the downed root ball. The first visit was Aug. 30th only staying just a few minutes, and likewise on August 31st staying just a short time. On Saturday, Sept. 1st the visit lasted longer, and this afternoon both Mr & Mrs North were caught on our camera monitor. The photos are grainy but we wanted to share them with you. Mr North arrived about 1:16pm CT to T3 and at 1:39pm CT Mrs North landed in the same tree on a lower branch. Mr stayed just a few minutes longer and flew out, while Mrs then flew down to the stream, enjoyed a quick drink and bath and then moved up the stream bank to dry off. There was never any doubt in our minds that they were both fine, but it was wonderful to have both of them visible in our viewfinder.

This is still the time of year where sightings are sporadic, so our cam will continue to remain off. Very soon RRP will make their planned on-site inspection of the tree as well as checking the camera equipment and cables. We’ll give you an update when that work is completed.
