Oak Bay Eagles, Oak Bay BC - 2017/2018 Season
Re: Oak Bay Eagles, Oak Bay BC - 2017/2018 Season
I've heard from Marie. She was at the nest site yesterday and there were NO eagles. She could hear one calling near her place so they have ventured out and about which is very early. She was there this evening at 6pm and one eaglet was at the nest.
The eaglet in the Lansdowne/Beach Dr. nest is branching.

Kay: Last year When the rehabbed FireHall/York Place eaglet was released on June 16 the nest was empty. His sibling had already fledged.
Then we saw one eaglet on June 21
Then we saw both of them on June 23
They are always early to fledge and often gone by Canada Day.

Partial Oak Bay tour today.
Both York Place eaglets perched on chimneys west of the nest site.
One eaglet at the edge of the Golf Course nest. Adult in the tree top drying wings.
Got some pix that may or may not be worthy of posting.

Re: Oak Bay Eagles, Oak Bay BC - 2017/2018 Season
Marie sent me a beautiful photo of the Sylvan Lane female perched in the nest tree, taken June 28th. I have asked her permission to post it here. She said the eaglet was constantly screeching at Mom to go get some food.
The eaglet in the Lansdowne/Beach Dr. nest is branching as is the eaglet in the Golf Course nest.
She has not seen the York Pl. eaglets for awhile; empty nest when she visits the nest site.

Marie has given me permission to post her photo of the female at Sylvan Lane. She is beautiful and both Marie and I agree that she looks familiar Marie tried to get a photo of her leg to see if she has a band but wasn't able to.

Kay: The Sylvan Lane female is the former Anderson Hill female. She has a new mate since 2016.
I posted I had seen both the York Place eaglets yesterday. The pictures aren't great. They were each on separate chimneys on the roof of a house west of the nest.

Golf Course eaglet . The stuffie hanging by the side of the nest now looks like an angel.
The adult at the top of the tree was drying its wings.
As an aside, we were pleased to see 4 Orcas at Clover Point and then again at the Marina.

Quick visit to York Place late this afternoon on our way to a meeting. We could hear the eaglet(s) screeping and found them at the very top of the Giant Sequoia at the entrance to the newly subdivided property. Very difficult to see let alone photograph. The occasional wing was visible. I haven`t looked at the attempt to get a picture yet but I can confirm both eaglets are together and near the nest.

Thanks to Marie . These Fire Hall /York Place eaglets historically seem to always want to stick together.

Re: Oak Bay Eagles, Oak Bay BC - 2017/2018 Season
I visited the nests this evening. The Lansdowne/Beach Dr. eaglet was perched on a branch beside the nest. Mom was perched on the other side of the tree and the eaglet was watching it and Dad who was perched on the snag down the road.
This first photo was taken from the street behind the nest tree.
Eaglet on the branch on the right side of the nest.
These next 2 were taken across the road from the nest tree.

The first 2 are Mom, preening in the nest tree. I had to walk
up the road a little way to get a good view of her.
This is Dad perched in the snag looking out over the bay.

Re: Oak Bay Eagles, Oak Bay BC - 2017/2018 Season
Next it was on to the Golf Course nest. The eaglet was sitting up in the nest and as I was standing at the entrance with my camera focused on the nest the eaglet started screeping. A few seconds later Dad flew in with something in his talons. The eaglet continued to screep then started mantling while Dad sat on the side of the nest. I think the eaglet was waiting for Dad to leave before digging in to whatever prey Dad brought.
These first 3 photos were taken before Dad flew into the nest.
