Checked on Pa and his new Missus today. She was standing by the side of the nest with a nice-ish crop visible and he was chilling in a tree next door.

Visited Pat Bay yesterday. A feeding going on in the Epicure nest. Looked like Pa.
Also walked the beach north to the path that leads to the nest at the end of Tanner Rd. Saw an adult perched next to the nest. Ian says he saw movement in the nest so they have an active nest. I will open a new thread for that nest.

I also visited Pa Sidney's snag nest yesterday. When we arrived at that lovely new pull-off area on W. Saanich Rd. at approx. 3:40 Pa was in the nest and looked like he was feeding a chick. He flew off 8 minutes later then his new mate 'Missy' flew into the nest at 3:55. She stood there for a few minutes then flew off. A very small fuzzy beige head can be seen in front of her chest in 2 of my photos Pa arrived at the nest with something in his talons just after Missy left.but we couldn't determine what it was. He flew off a minute later then Missy arrived in the nest again. She didn't appear to be feeding then Pa flew in again, they both stood looking down into the nest, then Pa flew off again. We left at approx. 4:15 just after Missy flew off the nest. I don't think I have ever watched a pair of eagles flying in and out of the nest as many times as Pa & Missy did
Pa feeding.
Just before Pa flew off.
Pa's new mate Missy. Little beige fuzzy head visible in front of her chest.

Missy with a chick visible to the right of her head. We wondered if she was feeding another chick.

Pa flying in with some prey. Looked like some feet hanging down.

Nice shots Kay! We left the area just before you and missed both you and all that great action.
I am pleased you have confirmed there is at least one chick and it is still pretty young, too.
Life goes on.
Fabulous!

So much going on here since I last dropped in! Thank you Lynda and Kay for your reassuring updates about nesting. Sad about Ma not being included though. Perhaps she was just too old to fight off Missy. I can understand the tug at heartstrings with your newcomer. Hoping for a successful season for Pa and Missy.

Thanks stim. Nothing lasts forever.
I love Pa and it isn't the same without Ma , I have to admit, but life goes on and it looks like there is new life in the nest with Missy.

Thanks Lynda & Sandra. Yes, sadly it definitely is not the same without Ma However, I do wish Pa & Missy a successful breeding season and we may be surprised with another eaglet appearing the next time one of us goes to visit

It's wonderful Pa has a new mate who is helping him to continue his legacy. Life does go on and we can see the joy here.
Thank you Lynda and Kay for these photos......

Of course, Ma Sidney has a special place in my heart forever...she opened my eyes to eagles.

Great captures of Pa and Missus and the bobble Kay.
June 12th - Also that eaglet should be fledging or getting ready to because those photos were in May and the cycle is conceived in March and 3 months to June for teenagers and branching then fledging is next....am I right?

Re: Ma & Pa Sidney BC Bald Eagles -Patricia Bay - 2017-2018 Season
Thank you JudiW. This eaglet is still very young so it won't be fledging any time soon. It is probably a month or so behind the others in the area.
I hadn't intended to go see Pa & his new family last evening but was visiting a few other nests in the area so thought I might as well. Pa was in the nest feeding his eaglet. The light was fading so I took lots of photos before I got one that actually shows a fuzzy head

Re: Ma & Pa Sidney BC Bald Eagles -Patricia Bay - 2017-2018 Season
I did a tour of (most of) the nests on the peninsula yesterday. When we arrived at the south end of the (former) Epicure property Pa was perched in the tree enjoying the sunshine. We could see Missy perched at the top of the tree next to the nest tree and could barely make out a grey blob on the right side of the nest. After Pa flew off and circled overhead a few times we headed up the road to view the nest from W. Saanich. The gate at the new driveway was closed so we parked there for awhile until someone wanted to get in. Missy was also enjoying the sun, holding her wings out at her sides. The little grey blob is quite a bit bigger than it was the last time I was there but still very small. We did see only one.
These first 2 photos are Pa.
This one is the nest showing the grey blog on the right side of the trunk.
