For over 20 years osprey have been returning to build a summer home at the Calgary Zoo.

The Osprey from the former Enmax camera can be observed from the Canadian Wilds area at the zoo, near the musk ox enclosure, or by strolling along the Bow River pathway which is the best option. Other osprey nests are in various locations along the Bow and Elbow River system.

:D  I think I found my way in. I couldn't get my old username from previous years to work or maybe I only thought I knew it. So I re-joined with what was the same old username but I guess I'm starting over. Oh well!! Just checking to see what happens next!!

Hi Ernie :bye 1: So glad to see you made it.

lilywriter (Christine) , Bluebird1 (Jean), DKY and BET have all registered as well so we should be off to a great start once the birds return. From what I have heard Calgary is dealing with a HUGE amount of snow so I hope it doesn't stick around for long. Looking forward to Spring.

Well, this is just the worst possible news and very unexpected.
Thank you Janet for sharing the news with us.
photo24.jpg
I for one am going to miss this camera so much :cry1: and most of all I'll miss our amazing group we have had posting here at the Calgary nest for so many years. :grhug: Thank you for the fun, the laughter and, the sometimes, tears as we watched 12 years of this amazing osprey family. There are still lots of osprey nests to watch here at HWF, along with many eagle cameras, so I hope everyone finds what they are looking for.

If anyone in Calgary will be making trips down to this nest, or any of the many Calgary nests, I will leave this thread open for pictures and reports.

:cry1: :cry1: :cry1:

Ten years I have watched and recorded the activities on this nest. I was looking forward to another year with a new camera. Now - well depressed is a good word to explain my feelings.

Is there any way that a local business could buy a new top of the line cam and donate it to EnMax or arrange to set it up and run it themselves for the advertisement?

Only a month to accomplish that if it is at all possible.

I will keep checking this forum to see it there is any news.

Miss you all
BET :cry1:

BET, I don't think money had anything to do with their decision. They can well afford to do it if they wanted to.

Hi everyone..

I just found out about the cam not streaming this season. It's such sad news and makes me wonder if the Zoo would ever think about doing it. It's been awhile since my last visit to the Zoo, before the nest pole was moved, but I think it's still on Zoo property. This is like loosing a friend, dang.

:grhug: everyone.

I did Tweet the Calgary Zoo to see if they would be interested in taking over the osprey camera and this is their response.

I also checked with my daughter to see if maybe the company she works for in Calgary would be interested but they are still recovering from the oil and gas crisis so can't put out the money to do it right now. :(

APRIL 22, 2018

I got a very special treat in my email this morning from Janet Preston ! She sent photos from the nest -- I am sooooo excited that the osprey did return.

"Hi Judy
Is anyone reporting on the Zoo nest?
We finally made it there on Friday.
Sat across the river
Two on nest when we arrived
Nest very established so they must have been back for awhile
Dad left soon after
Lots of flying around us then he disappeared.
We had just starting walking the path by the river and he flew right by us with a fish and a seagull looking for a free dinner
I still have to download the pics by the nest and Dad (I assume) Flying beside us.
These are just iphone pics

Still upset we lost the Webcam

We will make a trip and sit beside the platform at some point. "

***Somehow the network managed to notify me of the pictures, many thanks to everyone involved. Pictures will never make up for the loss of the camera but it still keeps us informed & in contact. Later on when all the snow melts from my back yard, should be soon, I hope to go down to check out the site.
