Ok, so not a lot to report. They Eaglets are certainly not feeling satisfied nutritionally and Tucca is voicing their chagrin on the matter frequently to anyone who will listen (mostly Tiku). Not to worry tho, they are getting just enough to eat but more importantly, they are learning what they need to do to survive.

The first 3 shots are of our Tiku clowning around and mostly keeping positive.

3:50 am Dad having left the kids to deal with the meal that Darlene reported on, on their own, left almost immediately after the delivery. About 25 minutes into the feed an interesting interaction between Mom and Tucca occurred - having eaten the piece h/s managed to grab from Tiku down to the last bone, Tucca grappled with it for some time trying to swallow it whole. Finally he picked it up and took it over to where Tiku was - it looked like he was wanting Tiku to help or maybe he was just contemplating how h/s could somehow get some of what Tiku was still working on? In any case h/s put his treasure down and squeed continually, as only Tucca can! Mom suddenly flew in, went straight to the bone, broke it up and fed it to Tucca! Coincidense? Maybe, but I like to think she was watching what was happening from somewhere and flew in to help her youngest! She left almost immediately the bone was gone!

:vid: Tucca wrestles with some bone h/s really wants - Mom comes to the rescue (3:26)

Kids settled down at 9:52 pm

I'm back! Great pictures, CC! Good to hear there was a good feeding yesterday evening - thanks for covering that, Darlene! And I love hearing that Res came to the rescue with the bone - thanks, gemini!

Quick report on the early morning feeding from the dvr -

Chicks were asleep in the early morning light when Res arrived with food at 4:44 am. Not sure what it was, but it looked fairly large - maybe rabbit? I think the chick at the top is working on the new food object while Res feeds the other chick.

The chick who had been trying to self-feed decided it would be more productive to join the feeding.

After a little while the chick who was being fed first moved around to check out the food. And a little later Res moved over to the new object and started feeding from it.

My impression is that the food was rabbit, possibly roadkill - definitely dead, but not opened and a bit challenging for the eaglets, though both had a bit of a try at it.

Res left at 5:07 am, and I think Tucca moved over to the food object to continue working on it, while Tiku practiced some standing and looking.

It's now 8:17 am and both eaglets are napping by the trunk of the tree; I didn't see any other visits so far this morning.

South cam signal seems to be pixelating quite a bit this morning - I'll mention that to Ken, and he may reboot the cam, which will reset the dvr.

I'm going to be out for part of the day - please do post if you see any activity. Thanks!

One eaglet is sleeping in the middle of the nest (Tucca?) and the other is standing on the edge where Tiku often stands - so maybe Tiku?

Tiku is 67 days old, Tucca is 66 days old.

The weather for this afternoon and evening:

Looks like great weather for the eaglets!

I'm going to check the dvr....

And it looks as if the eaglets spent the last 6 hours just hanging out - a lot of sleeping, some standing and looking, occasional breaks to nibble on leftovers - and some major flapping every now and then.

I think this is Tucca.

I had a hard time figuring out who was who while I was zooming - I think I know now, but there were moving around occasionally, so I may be off on my IDs. With that disclaimer, here are some screenshots.

I think we're starting with Tiku standing up and Tucca lying down; there are a lot of dark feathers on the leg of the one who is standing (and I eventually got a look at their tails).

Tiku interested in something.

Switching to the other camera, Tiku is standing in the center either commenting or passing food down from the crop, and Tucca is now up and probably going for a PS behind the tree.
20210609_015.jpg

And then I caught something that's fairly common, but not that easy to catch - Tucca expelled a pellet!

Here's a closer look at the packet of fur, feathers, bits of bone and other things that can't be digested:

Continuing....

Tiku on left and Tucca on right admiring the pellet (which I can't really see - but I liked the way they both looked interested).
20210609_018.jpg

Tucca did a bit more coughing as if he might have a second one, but I didn't see anything come out.

After that, Tucca apparently felt it was time for a bit of flapping; Tucca is now on the left.
20210609_019.jpg

A look at Tucca's tail feathers - I found it hard to be sure they had the white at the tip because Tucca was standing on something off-white, probably from a previous meal.

Continuing....

Tucca did a bit of flapping (this picture is cropped to respect the privacy of the human neighbors).
20210609_021.jpg

It's hard to get their wings in focus - but they are getting very big wings!
20210609_022.jpg

Tucca getting some good height! (And note that h/h leg still looks more gray than Tiku's, with down instead of feathers.)
