Surrey Reserve

Another feeding completed and Sur did a great job.
Sur still at the nest while SR5 and SR6 are quite content, though SR6 squeals now and then.
Lots of chirping taking place.
Beautiful day at the nest.

Surrey Reserve

Sur is still at the nest. At one point both SR5 and SR6 started moving towards Sur but they both lay down after looking upwards at Sur.

Thank you for the reports, Sandy, CC398, and Linuxgw2 - sounds as if the eaglets had a great day!

Looking back quickly -

Here's part of the feeding from 1:47 pm, mostly because it shows how fast their feathers are coming in - SR5's back is almost all black now.

And I'd been looking for a picture of SR5's wing feathers - and here's one from the end of the feeding. Look how long the feathers are now! (And what a long feeding!)

And then at 3:34 pm - not sure which adult this is, but they brought a nice large fish.

Continuing....

It looks as if SR6 is getting a lot of this; SR5 is close by - but likely very full. I'm thinking this is Res, but I can't be sure.
20210513_040.jpg

3:39 pm
SR5 decided to take her/his large crop over beside the trunk of the tree for a nap, while SR6 continues to eat.
20210513_041.jpg

SR5 may be past the rapid structural growth stage, and focusing on growing feathers and building strength, which may require less food; SR6 still has some growing to do (though maybe not as much if s/he is male) - and SR6 is a day and a half younger and probably a couple of days behind in development - and as you compare the eaglets from day to day, they grow a lot in a day, so SR6 may be eating more for a couple of days before he/she also tapers off a bit.

Continuing....

Adult (maybe Sur) in at 4:29 with a large, white and live bird. Sur (or maybe Res) looks quite winded by the effort of bringing this food object to the nest. (Saying little prayer of thanks to the gull for helping our eaglets grow.)
20210513_042.jpg

SR5 (on left) is watching as it's being prepared, but I don't think she/he is hungry.
20210513_043.jpg

SR6 (on right) appears to have something to say, but I'm not sure how he/she can fit anything more into that crop right now.

It was a seagull and the poor thing was alive but not for long thank goodness. I hate watching live prey but I honor the seagull for giving up it's life to feed our babies!

I'm not having luck getting a s'cap, but this looks like Sur's tail with the shorter feather on the right edge. The food is now being served, and both chicks are lined up for bites, though heaven only knows where they'll put more food at this point.

Jumping ahead to 5:07 pm, SR5 has gone back over by the trunk to sleep, and SR6 is still close enough to have an occasional bite, but I think the younger chick is mostly happily passed out as well. And hopefully Sur also had some food from this large meal.
20210513_047.jpg

Sur flew off a few minutes later.

It's now 6:10 pm. The eaglets have been wandering around a bit, and are now sleeping together near their favorite tree trunk. And it's time for me to say goodnight.

Stay safe, people and eagles. :offtobed:

Res is on the nest feeding the chicks from the gull that was brought in earlier. This time SR5 seems to be getting bites, and SR6 is right there, but seems too full to try for more, at least right at this moment.

And now I really am leaving - goodnight, all -

They had a good day today! Both got fed a bit more of the seagull tonight.

Good morning, everyone, and thanks for posting the weather, Bev!

SR5 is 41 days old (almost 6 weeks!), and SR6 is 40 days old.

Res left her perch around 4:51 am as it was beginning to get light, and there was a quick visit (I think by Res) at 5:32 am. Both chicks looked up briefly, but neither made any move to get up, and Res flew off a minute later.

I haven't seen any additional visits, though I could easily have missed a quick visit when I skimmed through the dvr.

The chicks have been up and wandering about, though they are napping at the moment (8:14 am).

SR5 did some great flapping a little earlier:

:vid: I Have Wings! (80 seconds)

While you're watching, keep an eye on SR6 - the younger one appears to me to be taking careful notes!

Not too long after that, the two eaglets had a bit of an encounter, that appeared to me to be more play-fighting than actual rivalry - and while SR6 did blink first (so to speak) what surprised me is how big SR6 actually is this morning. He or she is skinnier - but look at this!

:vid: Big Eaglets! (60 seconds)

(I also added a video of SR5 flapping on the previous page - they are growing so fast!)

It's now 8:39 am and both chicks are dozing on the nest and occasionally calling for food.

And SR5 is definitely bigger - but SR6 is catching up quickly.

Eaglets are dozing on the nest. SR5 definitely has a lot more feathers showing, and is still larger - but they don't seem that far apart now.
