Thanks to Janet Preston. I don't know what it would take to have private funds continue to support the camera. I/we would be willing to help. Don't know where to go from here.

Hi Judy, Bet, Ernie and DKY, and thank you Judy for sharing Janet's pictures. Like all of you I was crushed when I heard the news that Enmax was abandoning this project and casting us and our beloved pair adrift. This is very sad for all of us who have followed the cam for the past many seasons and come to love our super Mom and Dad.

The research potential seems to go unrecognized here in Alberta and though I will try and visit the zoo this year to look for "our birds" we will lose the intimacy we were able to share with these courageous and magnificent birds.

I hope all of you survived the long winter well and thank you Judy for keeping this thread open this year. Now that spring has finally arrived it seems so wrong not to share it with all of you. Keep well everyone, and that goes especially for Mom and Dad Osprey. :huggie:

As promised Janet has sent her pictures and I'm so excited to post them. :rh:
These photos are going to take up quite a few posts because of the limit to 3 per post but I'll get them on here. :D

From Janet:
Assuming this is Super Mom...
It was always the same Osprey on the nest in these pics
Dad? was there at first then flew into trees to the left
then he flew all around us before disappearing

First :huggie: and THANK YOU to Janet. Gorgeous photos.

I agree, it does look like Super Mom, but I have no idea about the male. I would need to compare the under wing markings with one of Janet's previous photos and even then it would be difficult as the under wing markings are not that definitive. None of the EnMax photos show the Osprey in flight.

I noted that EnMax did not remove the camera or the housing.

Regarding who would be willing to take on responsibility for a new camera and it's operation: I think the operation of the camera and all of it's connections and electrical components is the big problem. The Zoo did not want it after the first year, EnMax does/did not like having an employee used to manage it, so who could or would? A school? Is there a University, or Community College in Calgary that would have a division interested in ornithology? Or is there an Audubon Society in the area that could be enticed to take on the project?

Thank you to Janet Preston for sending us an update on the Calgary Osprey family this season. She has sent us a series of the following photos.
It's wonderful to see how well this family has done again this season. Thank you Janet !!

"A few pics from todays visit
First opportunity I had to get back there
Think Dad must have just bought the headless fish home then Mom flew to the sandbar
One of the kids was with her then the second arrived
We watched for about an hour
Must have been a big fish"
