French Creek Estuary Eagles, Vancouver Island - 2020 - 2021

Re: French Creek Estuary Eagles, Vancouver Island - 2020-2021
As we know, the French Creek eagle pair decided to build a nest of their own instead of using the one with the camera, Fortunately, however, we have a ground observer who has kindly passed on a video she recorded!
Note the size of the branch the eagle is trying to move! (Mr FC struggling with branch while Mrs FC watches!)
French Creek eagle pair pass on the "pre-built" and do their own thing!

Hi everyone! We had a visitor! With feathers - and a white head and tail!!
I was on the phone so couldn't post during the visit, but was able to log in and follow the eagle around while he or she explored the nest. And I had been hearing calls before that today - and I don't know if this is one of the pair that's working on the new nest, or if it's another eagle - I'll need to look at the new video of the local pair to see if I can see any distinguishing characteristics.
He or she arrived at about 1:40 pm.
A closer look.
Then he or she went down onto the branches below the nest:

Continuing....
He/she was preening just before I got this s'cap, which shows some of the upper tail.
S/he left shortly after that, flying away to the right, and I wasn't fast enough to follow.
An Eagle Explores the Nest at French Creek (4-1/2 minutes)
I'm afraid there's some pixelating, probably because I was zooming during the visit, which might be putting a bit of strain on the bandwidth.
Added - while recording the video, I saw that the eagle flew in from the right, and then left in that direction. I'm not sure where the original pair's nest is - will try to check with the local observers to see if that's where this eagle was headed.

I just watched the video - and wow, that is one big stick! Unfortunately I couldn't see anything in it to help us know if it was one of this pair who visited the nest with the camera earlier today, or if it was a newcomer to the neighborhood, perhaps looking for a nest.gemini wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 3:32 amAs we know, the French Creek eagle pair decided to build a nest of their own instead of using the one with the camera, Fortunately, however, we have a ground observer who has kindly passed on a video she recorded!

November 5, 2020 Mr FC not appreciating Mrs FC's offer of help!
Marital spat!
Eaglet, Hali, recorded in July 2020 after she fledged. She's at the top of her "Dad's" favourite perch tree not far from their old nest. This is the tree the pair are currently building their new nest in!

YouTube is having major issues.
Whatever isn't working - it's not us. Hopefully they'll get it sorted out soon because I want to see the video!

As a follow-up to the visit on the 11th, Denise Foster, who is from the area, added the following comment to my video: "Awesome watching the eagle fly in from the Salish Sea! It flew from the south east side where the French Creek Marina is and also where the original pair are building a new nest. Hard to tell if this is one of that pair or not. Definitely looked interested in this ready made nest!"JudyB wrote: ↑Wed Nov 11, 2020 2:38 pmContinuing....
