Ma & Pa Sidney BC Bald Eagles -Patricia Bay - 2017-2018 Season
Re: Ma & Pa Sidney BC Bald Eagles -Patricia Bay - 2017-2018 Season
elle the more I look at your photos the more I think those eagles are our Ma & Pa Pa on the left with the faint line on the left side of his neck where he had the injury years ago, and Ma with that little feather hanging down on her left side of her neck.

I agree Kay. And the more I look at the picture of the one in the nest on March 27 the more it looks like Ma, too, and not the young one I saw at my previous visit. The young one had a very long slim neck a very squeaky voice.
Talons crossed it is her We just have to see her closer up and try to see a white feather on her right leg. There is some sun forecasted in a few days.
But it looks like no eggs again this year. That's okay as long as Ma and Pa are still together and not threatened.

Re: Ma & Pa Sidney BC Bald Eagles -Patricia Bay - 2017-2018 Season
Went to Pat Bay today. There is a Bald Eagle pair nesting in the Epicure nest. I am quite certain the male of the pair is our Pa. Still not sure about the female but today it looked like the new younger one with a long slim neck. I have some pictures I will share later.
Something rather unbelievable happened. As we were walking along the beach back to the car parked at the south end we turned around and 2 bald eagles flew to a visible perch at the edge of the field, copulated and then flew back to the nest. I know this is anthropomorphizing but it seemed Pa brought his new mate out for us to see and for her to see us! This was after we had spent a good 15 minutes or so with Pa at the beach where he had flown to an exposed rock , something he likes to do at low tide, and stared at us the whole time, in recognition.
Call me crazy
Back later.

You are not crazy Lynda, you know. I explained that kind of knowing to my grandson and he found it difficult to understand yet, I know, and you know, and we all know here on this Forum, that we can understand them. It's incredibly cool when that happens.

You can just see a white head in the nest from way out on the beach at very low tide.

Thank you Carolyn. I know for sure this is Pa and I know for sure he recognised us. That is so wonderful since we have not really seen him much for over a year, certainly not at the beach like that. It was like old times. We will visit more often now.

May 2- 2018. Epicure nest occupants. I believe this is our Pa with a new lady and they must have an eaglet or 2 that cannot be seen yet.

Pa landed on the beach
New Missus, whom I shall call Missy from now on , landed next to him squealing
Missy
Pa then flew to the top of a tree overlooking the beach
While Missy landed below in the same tree and had her lunch
