The nest is located about 80 feet up in a Longleaf Pine tree and was built by the resident eagles approximately 11 years ago. Through the years, the nest has grown considerably in size and weight (likely weighing close to a ton)
In order to protect the eagles and their nest, the specific location of this nest is private and cannot be disclosed.

ABOUT OUR CAMS with thanks to AEF
Three high-definition cams are available on this page. Two are mounted on the nest tree and provide different views of the nest. The third cam is mounted on a nearby tree at a lower angle and shows the nest tree and the canopy. If you watch for a while, you may be lucky enough to see eagles flying to and from the tree, and when the eaglets get to a certain size, you will see them begin to branch and ultimately fledge the nest.
The three video cam views are accessed by clicking on “Other Views,” located at the bottom right of the screen when mousing over the video screen. The three views will be shown at the bottom of the screen as thumbnails, and you can simply click the view you want to watch. By default, cam one has been selected.
At night, an infrared light is turned on. The eagles cannot see this light; it is outside their visible spectrum of light. Neither can humans. If you were at the nest site, looking up at the tree at night, you would only see light from the moon or stars. The infrared light is converted into visible light (black and white) by the camera.
We would like to thank the (AEF) and Al Cecere for sponsoring this wonderful window into the daily life of these majestic raptors and to HWF for sponsoring it on the web cam And I would like to thank MaryF and Judy B for pulling together some of the information for our opening posts.[

Re: 2020-2021 NE Florida Observation and Discussion Thread
Definitions.. Bev / Irish Eyes
Incubate
'(of a bird) sit on (eggs) in order to keep them warm and bring them to hatching
Brooding
This is a term which means keeping chicks warm and comfortable. When your baby chicks arrive they will need special care. This is the time when you can expect a few chicks to die
The brooding period is the time between when the chicks are hatched until they can be on their own without any heat.

I am marking everyone absent this morning at sunrise...Alex the Anhinga was not seen yesterday or today, Samson is out and about this morning, and the Red Shouldered Hawk was heard but not yet seen this morning. Guess they are all at the beach this morning!

Re: 2020-2021 NE Florida Observation and Discussion Thread
We Are Having Issues with the Forum
People who are signed in can post - but those who aren't logged in are getting error messages when they try to sign in.
It is not you or your internet provider - it's a forum issue.
Our tech person is working on this. We will probably have to bring the forum offline at least once as he's resetting things - and worst case scenario, we may need to revert to a backup that's 24-48 hours old, losing our posts for the last day or two. We hope it won't come to that, but if the server crash that took the forum down briefly yesterday damaged files, that may be necessary.
I haven't posted there yet - but if I get locked out or the forum goes down, I'll be posting updates on our backup forum - http://www.wildlifecamwatch.com/index.php under Welcome & HWF Updates and will also post updates on our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/Hancock-Wildli ... =bookmarks
Please let other folks know - I woke up to a lot of emails and won't get back to everyone right away. Thanks!
Note to Bev - I've saved this thread as a Word document in case we have to go back to before you did all this work.

TUESDAY (delinquent) TUCK-IN: Samson was seen at the LTY (photo above) and flew at 8:20pm, but he didn't make his way to the nest tree. He's surely close by tho! At the onset of the season (thru Sept) the eagle's appearances will be spotty up until they get serious.
