Re: Metchosin , Westshore and Sooke Bald Eagles 2017-2018 Season
On Feb. 18th I visited my granddaughter who has lived in Metchosin since last August. While looking out the window at the pond at the back of the property, an immature eagle flew up from the pond area and landed in the tree right behind the house A few seconds later another one flew up from the pond area but flew right over the house. My granddaughter said they have seen eagles of all ages flying and perching in nearby trees. Unfortunately I didn't have my camera with me and didn't think to ask her to take a photo with her cell phone I think I'll be visiting them more often

My sister, who lives in the WestHills area in Langford, continues to see one adult eagle perched in a tree by Langford Lake when she goes for her walks. The nest they had a couple of years ago across the lake fell down. We'll be exploring the area when the weather gets a bit better

I visited the Farhill Rd. nests today with a friend and both adults were perched in the nest tree. One was half hidden amongst the branches at the top left of the tree, the other one was on a branch above the nest.
This is their alternate nest a short ways down the road.

The nest tree from a different vantage point on Duke Rd. Certainly looks like
the eagles have been snapping some of the lower branches off for their nest.

Yesterday I saw the pair of eagles from the nest at Parry Bay, perched side by side watching the people and dogs on the beach.

A friend saw 2 adult eagles at Witty's Lagoon on Wed. One was perched by the area where the older nests are and the other was perched by the nest near the park area calling.

That is wonderful news. Now that the weather has improved, we will be heading out that way in the coming week sometime.

We went to Witty's - Tower Point yesterday and could see an adult in the nest across the way and above the beach. It was 6 millions miles away but tried for a picture anyway. I will see if it is worth posting.
There were no eagles visible in the Farhill or Duke Rd nests.
Had coffee at Pedder Bay and there was one eagle there.

Re: Metchosin , Westshore and Sooke Bald Eagles 2017-2018 Season
I did a tour of the Metchosin nests today with a friend. Both eagles were back and forth from the Farhill Road nest to Albert Head Lagoon area hunting. One flew over the lagoon with something in its talons, followed by 3 adults and an immature eagle. It was headed towards the nest so we went back to the nest and saw both adults in the nest tree. One was eating prey that looked like it might have been a rabbit.
When we arrived at Tower Point there was an eagle in the nest at Witty's Lagoon and several more soaring overhead. The one in the nest flew out and joined the others. They all appeared to be after something in the big field. It was quite exciting; we didn't know which way to look We spoke to a couple of ladies who said there were vultures, red-tails and eagles all in the area this morning.
I'll post some photos tomorrow.
