Can anyone get the live stream with chat?

From

@HellgateOsprey

March 26th has been the typical date of arrival for Star, the female at the baseball nest in Missoula, Louis's current mate. Will she show up today? We won't know until someone on ground tells us. Maybe Dr Greene will be keeping an eye open? Hopefully we will find out soon!

4/3 A reminder: We really do need time of cam scap (screen capture) in tweet when you tweet photos, or tweet important info, pls. When things start happening quickly we want to be able to retweet in chronological order. Sometimes Twitter doesn't post photos in that order. Thx!

4/2 19:20 Dr. Greene has reported that Louis returned to the baseball field nest in Missoula, yesterday, 4/1, and the female, Star, returned today, 4/2. They have removed the goose excluder today. Now all we need is for Iris to show up :-)

From FBMontana Osprey Cams
17 hrs ·
Hello everyone!
Wow - these are scary times right now! We hope that you, your loved ones and friends are healthy and safe. We have been out of touch for a while, but we are excited about what the upcoming osprey season might bring????? It is always a cliff-hangar and very interesting no matter what happens.
I have been really sick for about a month (influenza even though I got the shots), and then the University of Montana has closed down for in-person classes. So we have had to scramble to provide all of our classes on-line and remotely. I am teaching some large freshman biology classes and so this has been a challenge.
But here is some exciting news - the ospreys are trickling back! Louis arrived back yesterday at the baseball nest (the next nest down the river from the Hellgate nest). We had a goose excluder on that nest to keep the Canada Geese off the nest, but took it down as soon as Louis showed up. The female at that nest arrived back today, and she looks in really great shape. Some photos attached.
We have been thinking that there may be several scenarios that play out at the Hellgate nest, and all of them will be exceedingly interesting from a biological point of view.

First, Iris may not have survived the winter. Remember that she is one of the oldest-known ospreys in the world right now. This would be sad for us, and the end of a remarkable era at this nest. But if this happens, there are so many questions. Will the Hellgate nest be taken over by another female? If so, how long will that take? Remember that the last few years there have been prospecting birds landing on the nest (much to Iris' chagrin). Remember last year there was that HUMONGOUS female that dropped in several times and she seemed very interested in the nest. Will she show up?

Second, Iris may have survived the winter and return. Woo hoo! She spent most of last summer as a stay-cation, mainly fishing for herself and not working too hard. I think she migrated south in really great shape. If she does return, then the soap opera begins. Will Louis continue with his shenanigans? If Louis does show up at the Hellgate nest, will Iris have anything to do with him? Last year she drove him away several times. And then late in the summer, Iris was hanging out with a new male. Will he be around, and will the two of them pair up???

So buckle your seat belts and stay tuned. No matter what happens it is bound to be interesting. We continue to learn SO much about these amazing creatures from this camera.

Stay healthy and happy!
Sincerely, Erick Greene and all the Montana Osprey Project

You are welcome and thanks Heather . I holding hope for Iris .. last season we thought it was her on April 2 but it was mentioned she came back around April 5..

Also, several KEEN observers has noted that the first Osprey to show up at the Hellgate nest WAS NOT IRIS! There was a female that showed up on 2 and 3 April, and I had posted that it was Iris. One of our excellent osprey watchers, Allison Lanier, noticed differences in the wing feathers of the first bird and Iris! Iris has a primary feather that is molting back in - this creates a "gap" in her wing. The first bird does not have this. I have posted a couple of the photos that Allison has analyzed. Thanks Allison - it is watchers like you that keep us on our toes!!
So who needs soap operas?? I don't know how this season will turn out for Iris, but she continues to impress me with her strength and character. She is my role model!
Sincerely, Erick Greene

Hi Bev and Heather (in either order)......

Thanks for the filled in information. I am glad Louis and Star are back and healthy.

We'll see about Iris She is a trooper. Whatever does happen will be an education as Dr. Greene has stated.
The roller coaster that these delightful raptors take us on is incredible. With love,
