They just lost another egg, according to the IWS chat. Also, apparently this nest has a 72% egg failure rate. Sad that we can't do anything to help. :cry1:

Jwin, so sad for this nest. The nest failure rate has got to be attributed to something in their environment. I read maybe the seal placenta are a contributing factor, something about the calcification of the shells. When is egg 3 due? Doesn’t she normally have 3? :luck: for that one.

I agree, Kitcat, it must be, but I wonder about the 3 from last year. They appeared to be quite normal. :dunno:
I don't know about the third egg. Mom isn't spending much time on the nest that I have noticed.

I saw that jwin. It is so sad. I wonder how Audacity loses so many yet had 3 to hatch last year. Read Dr. Sharpe thinks it’s something biological with Mom, not DDT related.

Definitely sad news. I do hope she stops at this point since it seems unlikely to get better this season.

I think it was 2018 when they raised three chicks, and last year she lost the first two eggs but the third survived and that chick fledged successfully - and I was hoping for at least a repeat of that. But.... :cry1:

Must admit I hadn't thought about the seal placentas as being a factor, but it makes sense as eagles eat the smaller bones from fish and birds and other types of food, and probably get some of their calcium from those - and placentas wouldn't have bones, though I have no idea what their nutrient content is.

Yes Judy, you’re right. I lost a year here and 2018 was such a standout year with those 3 eaglets that I forgot about calm 2019. We can never say never but I also hope Audacity is finished for this year. I wonder if they can retrieve the shell remnants for analysis? Didn’t they do that after the 3 broken eggs in ???2017.

Hi, Kitcat, it was yesterday sometime. I was way past time in chat to see. If the chat stays up I can ask.

Mod at chat said approximately 1:31 local time, March 7, 2020, for their fourth egg. Still :luck: Lady Hawk has video on her YT? page.
