This is very sad :cry1:

Report from CROW

E14 NECROPSY RESULTS: The liver tissue of E14 from the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam nest, a male eaglet, was found to contain markedly increased levels of brodifacoum, a type of anticoagulant rodenticide or rat poison.

Anticoagulant rodenticides, or rat poisons, prevent the blood from clotting normally and cause an animal that has ingested a toxic amount to bleed to death. Rodents that ingest the poison often become disoriented or lethargic as they are dying and become easy prey for eagles, hawks, owls and other predators, passing the poison through the food chain. Sadly, it is not uncommon for apparently healthy raptors to test positive for low levels of rodenticides, which have not yet reached the point of causing toxicity and illness. The adults in the nest likely have chronic exposure to rodenticides from the same food sources, but are not currently suffering any ill effects due to their larger body size compared to the affected baby.

For more information on anticoagulant rodenticides, please check out the following resources:

Mimi this is so so bad... that poor baby had no chance to heal  :cry1: :brknhrt:

I hope people using these products in the nest area feel bad and GUILTY.

People keep repeating how bad rodenticide are for wildlife and pets :brknhrt:

:woohoo: Bailey! :woohoo:

Everyone’s favorite Osprey, Bailey, helped save a life yesterday. A new Osprey patient was in need of a blood transfusion. When this happens, we often turn to our permanent resident birds to be blood donors, and we found Bailey to be the perfect bird for the job.

So heartfelt and heartbreaking Philippe :cry1:

a bit of smile with SOAR and news about D32 !

~ D32 update ~

While D32 is ready for release... D32 has completed all steps in the rehab process - rest while the leg fracture healed, minimal work once the wrap was off the leg, small flight pen to stretch out and start rebuilding muscle, bigger and bigger flight pens to build stamina.

Other factors will play into 'the when' that you all want to know.

Those factors? Kay wants the area ponds to have open water and there needs to be several consecutive days of good weather before she will open the release window on the 20x60 soft release pen. Kay has no estimate on when these conditions are going to happen.

Will we have video of the release? Trail cameras and the GoPro will put out. However, we can't promise anything usable, but Kay says, "We will try."

Recall the picture of one adult and two juvenile bald eagles in the 20x60 from mid-January. That is the cohort that will be soft released together. The adult is Logsdon Park and the other juvenile is Rowley, also a hatch-year 2019 from Buchanan County, Iowa. (See that post here: https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php? ... 9164528389)

D32 will not be banded. The banding of the four juvenile bald eagles soft-released in September were the exception.

Thank you for your continued concern for this juvenile's rehab process.

:D :woohoo:
Great News on D32!
Merci Pascale for watching D32 and their progress.
The "soft release" is the best of all worlds. Freedom to leave, yet to stay or return for same environment and food if needed.
I just knew that D32 would make it---look at that determination in their eyes.

Hello all Fans of E9 OR The E9 Bunch :grhug:

I was reviewing my old files and found this screenshot of E9 from March, 2017:
Now someone else took this shot and I just saved it.
I think it is o.k. to post, came from SWFEC and Pritchett's site.

Just look at that face! :D
