How sweet and cute. SE23 & SE24 are adorable!
:rh: :rh:

Another peaceful morning on the Mississippi River Flyway cam.
Can you see the Eagle Pair in the middle? Click to enlarge picture.
You could hear their morning vocals as they greeted each other.
Then one flew off---probably to pick up breakfish. ;)

Sunnybird, that's a beautiful and serene scene from the MRF cam. Love that cam!

Great video from Sasse of all the eagles bathing. That was some vigorous bathing! I loved the juvie that was half white/half black - very striking feathers.
Glad that Halley fledged successfully.
How is Rachel's leg doing now?
Hi Lanie
a part of the answer is below, but in my mind i hope i'm wrong but not sure i will see Rachel next year in the nest area, the challenge seems too hard even for her, migration, food, etc. :(

One month ago today on July 9th, 2019 Rachel returned to the nest after Halley was banded with her left leg swollen & was unable to use it. She was in pain and had severe balance issues & depended on her wings to stabilize her. Over the next 4 weeks, she has caught a total of 10 fish and is ambulatory but still has significant loss of use of her foot & her leg is still bent outward from the injury. Rachel will be leaving to migrate to South America by the end of August. This will be a difficult journey with this injury and we can only wish the very best for her. Halley has been doing very well since her fledge and Steve continues to bring in fish for her and Rachel. Thank you for watching!

I wanted to thank you Sunnybird for all the great captures of Mississippi River Flyway Cam ! beautiful !

the season sees its end. still eaglets in Alaska - Glacier Gardens. Smola kids hardly show on nest ; parents neither.

Sydney WBSE chicks are doing as great as they could despite very windy and chilly weather. I feel they are protected.

Orange peregrine Falcons are getting ready for new season. people put stones there ?? but the main issue now is snow. yes it's snowing. It's winter in Australia but it still surprises me. eggs could arrive by the end of the month.

Thanks, Philjo, for the information shared on Rachel. Yes, it will be a tough journey for her this year. I sure hope she will make it okay and have some time to rest and heal. Life is so hard for so many of our feathered friends.

Yes, Pascale, many nest watching has ended due to dispersal. Although I saw a post on FB from SWFEC that it's only about 2 months until the new nesting season begins for Harriet & M. Something to look forward to and not that far away!

At WBSE SE24 had a terrible day today. bonked many times. hopefully lady filled his crop. she placed a stick on his back to make a barrier to SE23...

My first and last reaction was here we go again. there is no food issue. just... aggressiveness. :(

There is another very sad story. I'm not even sure I have the heart to tell you but you can stop it now. it's a black eagles nest in Africa. very aggressive eagles, systematic siblicide. so 1 chick on the nest and a few days before hatch dad MIA. Mom made a great job bringing food. chick was thriving. a new male arrived. everything seemed to be ok until the chick wasn't seen anymore. theres no cam- only ground photographers. later they found the remains of the baby. after necropsy was performed and photos studied. the new Male attacked the chick, took it off the nest and ..
ate it. awful. there are pics circulating on facebook I won't share.
Useless to say the last hours have been very very difficult for me. even no Smola eagle is showing up to give me a smile.

 update for D32- it's a boy !

~ We have a boy! ~

Last week was momentous for D32 - the vet wrap was taken off (and not replaced), someone got weighed, and had a beak depth measurement taken! Drum roll... Kay has confirmation for us that D32 is indeed a boy based on the beak depth measurement. He weighs in at 8 pounds! D32 still favors his right leg (wouldn’t you after your cast and then walking boot came off?), but is using his leg and foot.

D32 is perching and getting up to a higher perch. Yes, there are three other perches in this 10x20 with good turf padding. He chose the one perch we haven’t gotten padding on! Go figure. Yes, he is still in the 10x20 with Decorah.

and D33
~ Camera shy? ~

D33 screamed at the GoPro camera last week. We imagine she thoroughly intimidated the camera...

D33, DN9, Allamakee, and Calmar are still in the 20x60 flight pen honing their landing skills and making practice flights. We'll try to get you another video snippet of the goings-on in this flight pen.

Welcome back Windy and Stormy eaglets of Liberty and Justice. Welcome back all. Of Arconic eagle nest cam in Davenport , Iowa. They are along a bike path in Iowa near the Mississippi River. You all went under water, town and all, and so long for the flooding rain waters to drain. Missed you Windy and Stormy growing up. The cams went out because of the flooding. But the cams are back now and you are still at the nest. So beautiful a nest. So glad all is well and you made it through and I can see you all on your nest. Arconic eagles back from the floods. Yes.

Merci Philjo,
The Rapture Resource Project updates on D32, D33, DN 9 and other fledglings have been great to read.
:bravo: to SOAR and all the raptors in their care.

The Mississippi Flyway cam is also a great one to visit.

Enjoy this video from the 20x60 flight pen of D33, DN9, Allamakee, and Calmar captured on the GoPro Camera on 13 August 2019. There is a bit of sound... the hum is the exhaust fan that circulates air through the building. The juvenile at the end of the video gawking at the camera is D33. Savanna confirmed as most of the talon polish has worm off!
