Re: Lafarge 2018/2019 Eagle Nest Discussion, Photos and Videos
Hi everyone,
Went to the tree this afternnon and one eaglet was in the tree another was in a neighbouring tree on a branch and I only saw it when it flew over my head (just a few feet above my head) I have never been that close to an eagle before - It was seriously about 10 or 12 feet above me - kinda freaked me out. It flew out of this tree and then an adult flew out right after it. It was amazing to see but little nervewracking, too. A neighboor watched it all and told me that the young one had followed the adult into a tree and when they flew out the seagulls came and that is why it flew down so low. I have had crows swoop me but never has eagle come so close - yikes. I guess when they are just learning to fly this can happen - makes me nervous for them.

I love how you seem so connected to these 2 eaglets Christine. Awesome you saw a fledge as well as followup behaviour in learning how to fly, land, control the flight path. All the fun stuff. Thank you for the pictures and for the marvellous sharing of information here.

So cool well it looks like the Pa the Mighty Lafarge has done it again and fledged two of his eaglets as a single parent......been away so didn'/t read if the female stuck around or did pa chase her away? good captures East Van girl
thank you

Eastvan Girl wrote: ↑Tue Jul 09, 2019 8:33 amWent to the nest and took these photos of the eaglets last evening. Shortly after when sitting at home I saw one of the eaglets (the one on the right) fledge. It flew north for a little bit then flew back towards the tree. It may have landed on the other side of the tree but I couldn't see it. Pretty exciting!!

After the rain - hanging out on Pa's branch.

I love the side by side photo. The one on the right must have gotten wet, drying its wings.

Yes, lately they have been hanging together on Pa's favourite branch - maybe one day I can get a pic of all three of them on it!
Re: Lafarge 2018/2019 Eagle Nest Discussion, Photos and Videos
Thank you Eastvan Girl for the updates and the for the sweet pictures. I am happy that Pa managed to bring up two fine eaglets.

Thanks for the pics, Eastvan Girl - beautiful eaglets Pa raised! I knew if anyone could do it, Pa could. He is one special eagle! Has always been my favorite! Right up there with Mom and Dad Sidney!

I am so glad everyone is enjoying the pics and updates about Pa's juniors. I feel happy and lucky to report on these two . I see them flying so often now it is wonderful. Pa has done a great job!
Re: Lafarge 2018/2019 Eagle Nest Discussion, Photos and Videos
How wonderful that you're seeing them both flying, Eastvan Girl - I have to admit I had doubts this day would come, because it's not at all easy for a single adult to raise eaglets who are barely 2 weeks old - but Pa is great!

Yes it has been quite the season for dear old Pa. Seeing the eaglets flying has been great - they were flying together quite often - and it was great to watch them soar. But I have not seen them for a couple of days now - so I wondering what is up - I'll take a walk to the tree in a bit and see if they are there - perhaps just really camoflaged.

Well it has been a number of days now and I haven't seen or heard any of the eagles so I think they have left for good. Pa really did a great job - I can't wait to see him back at the nest - maybe with the new 'mystery' eagle as his partner.

What a success story here this year! Thank you Christine for your devotion in watching these eagles and reporting to all us avid supporters out here. Pa is truly a hero. Any young female eagle will be lucky to hook up with him.

Re: Lafarge 2018/2019 Eagle Nest Discussion, Photos and Videos
It has indeed been a wonderful season after the sad start - Pa is the greatest! Thank you so much for sharing all of this with us, Eastvan Girl.
As you may have noticed, I like keeping track of dates - so was it around the 20th when the fledglings left? Did you see Pa in the area for a while longer, or did he leave around the same time?
Thanks!
As an aside, we think the Surrey Reserve and Delta 2 fledglings have also set out on their great adventure.

Hi JudyB,
Yes I would say the eaglets left around the 20th because I haven't seen or heard them since around that time. As for Pa, well I was going to say I hadn't seen him either but after talking to my husband just now he told me there was an eagle at the tree this morning and the crows were giving it a hard time. So perhaps it is Pa and he is still hanging around. I'll keep checking on things. Hope this info helps for your record-keeping.

Thanks so much, Eastvan Girl - and it wouldn't be surprising for Pa to hang around a while to make sure the fledglings were really gone and his job for the year was done - and perhaps to do a bit of work on the nest.

Thanks so much to Eastvan Girl for keeping us updated on Pa and his eaglets! Despite the tragedy of losing Lady, Pa did it once again and raised two eaglets to fledging. That's remarkable! I hope Pa has a good, restful migration and returns with another companion to start the new season.

Good Morning Everyone,
So happy to look out my window and see Pa sitting on his favourite branch.
Unfortunately my building is undergoing some repairs soon and my windows will be under tarps so my view of the nest will gone for a few months. But I am happy to be able to see Pa this morning.

Wonderful news - thanks so much for letting us know, Eastvan Girl. Keeping fingers crossed that the tarps will be gone by the time they start getting ready for chicks!

Good Morning,
Great sight at the eagle nest today. Two bald eagles - one near Pa's branch and another in the nest. Hopefully this is Pa with a new mate - perhaps that one that made a few appearances last spring. Yay!!

Once again Pa was on his branch this morning and his new friend was in the nest - so nice to see on this gorgeous fall day.
