Just got back and the power was off. Had to walk up three flights of stairs...wheeeew!

I am so happy to see both Ess and Dee in the nest again, it doesn't look so lonely now..lol.

I took a good look at Dee's tail and I think it was Ess I saw last night. Dee's is rounded Ess is straight across. I was pretty sure it was a square tail and not rounded... Its so hard to tell. :dunno:

Glad you could peek in, Bev!

3:10 pm
I’m still using my phone and iPad - but I think one of the fledglings is lying in the nest and the other is on what I’m calling the East perch, which are the sticks on the right side of the nest, sort of behind and under the high perch.

This is where they were when I posted

And this is where they were at 3:30 when I got to the computer to add a screenshot

North was pixelating again, so I rebooted it.

I expect you're right about the tails, Beth - I know I can often tell who is who, though I can't always explain why, exactly. Here I think it's Ess on the little perch, partly because she spends more time there, and partly because I think she still has a bit more down to shake out under her feathers, making her sometimes look a little puffy.

And she's now back in the nest with Dee.

One fledgling has flown off; the other is on the East perch. It’s quiet now - but they want food. Hoping one or both adults deliver soon. Good night everyone! :offtobed:

Good morning, everyone!

Thanks for the weather and early posts, Bev!

5 am
I've rebooted North - and I'm hearing someone calling for food, though it's faint so either in the upper branches or away from the nest.

Off for breakfast and coffee! :coffee2:

8:07 am
Good morning again - and wow, it's been a busy morning!

Dee arrived at the nest around 5:27 am
20190710_003.jpg

And an adult (maybe Res?) arrived with food a minute or two later.
20190710_004.jpg

Not sure what it was (maybe a flounder?) but Dee was working on it for a good half hour, before going up to the little perch, then to the high perch at 6:02 am. It may depend on the direction of the wind or something, but I noticed that when Dee settled in there, it was with her back to the cam. This is before she got settled, and I'm including it as a comparison to help tell who is there.

but then she settled showing us her narrower, more rounded tail position (I think their tails are fairly similar, but they prefer to hold them a bit differently).

She was looking around a bit, and flew off to the left at 6:15 am.

Continuing....

An adult arrived at 7:07 am (maybe Res?) - and I could hear at least one chick talking up a storm while the adult worked on the food item (I think a small bird)
20190710_007.jpg

At 7:09 I saw a large bird flying behind the tree on the South cam (not sure if she came from the upper branches), and a moment later a squealing dervish landed on the nest - and the adult left in a hurry!
20190710_008.jpg

Once things calmed down a bit, I was able to confirm that this was Dee.

But the story is not over....

Continuing....

I thought I heard a bit of calling even after Dee had chased the adult off and was eating. But then it grew quiet and Dee was making good progress on her meal, and looking around regularly, as wise fledglings do.

Then at 7:20, guess who came flying in from somewhere over to the left!
20190710_010.jpg

Dee (on the right) was not amused....
20190710_001.jpg

Ess did try to grab Dee's food - but Dee was having none of that, so Ess went to work on something that was left on the nest - maybe the flounder from the morning.

After the meal was over, Dee went up to the upper perch, and Ess went to the East perch (the partly hidden one on the right)
20190710_012.jpg

But after a few minutes, I think Ess wanted "her" perch back.

However, Dee wasn't budging, so after a couple of tries, Ess flew up to the little perch, then did a graceful flight off the nest at 7:44 am.

:vid: Graceful Ess

Dee actually went to the little perch and did a similar fly-away at 7:47 am.

It's now 9 am, and I don't think there have been any additional visits.

An adult came in at 9:59 am. Unfortunately the North cam was pixelating too much for me to tell who it was - it had been fine when I left, but that apparently didn't last. Anyway, a fledgling arrived at 10:01 am - and it's Ess!
20190710_015.jpg

Happy to see her get to the food first for a change (though they may both also be getting food off the nest).

Then, at 10:13, I thought I saw something fly by the nest, and a moment later, Dee arrived. Ess immediately went into full mantle to protect her prey.

It's now 10:19 and Ess has relaxed her mantle somewhat, but I think she's still keeping an eye on Dee.
