Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion
Good morning to all of you. and Congratulations Dee and Ess for your perfect fledge. What beauties you turned out to be. Mom and dad should be proud of the job they did raising you both.
9:07 Dee came back to claim the meal Sur brought in. She sure flies strong now.
I missed both Dee returning to the nest last evening and Ess fledging today so thank each and every one of you for your amazing video's
The first thing I have done for over 80 days is come here and watch the eagles. I am happy for then yet sad for me and all of you.
Well, I am late again this morning, old age is creeping up fast...lol... I have slept in way too late but enjoy every minute of it.
I will be back to please keep those video's coming.

I'm catching up a bit on all the activity the past couple of days - and just watched this video. It's great! I loved watching Ess follow Dee as she flew around, mostly out of our sight - but not out of Dee's! Thanks, Bill!BillA wrote: ↑Sun Jul 07, 2019 9:39 pmDee decides to take a little "fly about".

12 noon
Dee is up from her nap, and flew to the little perch she slipped from yesterday, then flew from there to the high perch. She's looking much more confident after only a couple of days of flying.

Dee flew off the nest a couple of minutes ago and I tried to follow her = and was way too slow. But then I looked in some treetops - and I found one of the fledglings, though I'm not sure which.
The angle is wrong for seeing tail feathers, but the shape reminds me of Dee more than Ess.
I made a version of this a preset called Dee_1 - this is what it looks like, and Dee(?) has moved further into hiding.
That will let us check this area quickly in the future.
I'm still on the South cam, and am keeping it pulled back so I have more chance of following Dee if she decides to fly off.

Yes, Judy, it does me too...I looked on the camera (south) and I see one there teetering on a thin branch in the tree.
Re: Surrey Reserve 2018-2019 Observation and Discussion
Thanks, Beth! I must admit that fledglings are more patient than I am - I know she can sit there for hours - and I suspect that as soon as I take my eye off her for more than a second - she'll be off!
2:05 pm
Dee flew off - and I followed her until she went behind the South cam tree
And I have no clue where she went after that. She could be back in the nest tree hiding behind the leaves - or in any other tree nearby.
Fledgling in Flight (39 seconds)
I'm out of the South cam for a while - need to step away from the mouse and keyboard.

Isn't she beautiful Judy? The way she soars through the sky, free, I am free...must be a good feeling.
Outside of humans who do they have to fear Judy? I can't think of another bird bigger then they are.
Just think our babies will be having babies in a few years themselves...lol..hope I'm around to watch their offspring.
Thank you all so much for the video's I so enjoy them.

Res just landed in the nest. I'm not seeing any flapping from the upper branches, or hearing anything, though she's looking around while working on something.

She just brought another flounder in and is picking at nest overs..yuck! seems she doesn't care much for flounder either..yet in a restaurant, you pay well for that...lol. They are fussy aren't they?..lol.Is flounder edible?
Flounders are sold as a whole fish or thin fillets and usually skinned, although the skin is edible. Whole flounder is good sautéed, steamed or roasted. Fillets are excellent sautéed with a coating of flour or light breading to crisp the soft flesh and prevent them from falling apart. Substitute any flatfish. YUMM!!!
Added, I take it back, Res loves flounder..lol...she must be hungry she is chomping it down fast.

Thanks, Beth - I wasn't sure if she brought it or if she dug up an old one that had been buried - which makes me glad that eagles don't have a sense of smell!
I don't know if the chicks don't like it - or if it's more that they don't like working!
3:03 pm
Res didn't finish the flounder - but I think she opened it, and had some bites while she was at it. Then she tried tugging on some of the big sticks to rearrange them.
She flew off at 3:04 pm - and I think I did hear one of the fledglings calling near the end of her visit.
4:17 pm
I've heard a few calls but haven't seen any activity. Will try to check back in later, but no promises.
