Good morning, everyone, and....

Ess just fledged!

5:57:37 am - lovely flight off to the left, just like Dee’s. More in a few minutes, once I finish my breakfast!

I can't believe I missed it! I've been watching since 4:30 this morning! I left long enough to go to the ladies room and feed Callie (kitties just don't understand fledging) and when I got back she was gone! I was recording while I was gone - video shortly!

:vid: Beautiful flight from Ess!

He's been soooo itching to go. And after much hesitancy, he finally took that leap of faith.

So glad you were both able to catch that, gemini and Bill! She was so very determined to do something this morning!

Ess is 12 weeks old today.

Just before taking off, she almost made it onto one of the higher branches on the other side of the tree. She flew from the little perch the adults use to the trunk on the other side

then flew-hopped onto a little branch I can't see

But apparently couldn't get a good grip, so turned and flew back down to the nest.

I'm going to reboot North so we have a better chance of telling who is who when they come back; I may take a look around while I'm logged in.

Hi Marg!

6:48 am
Adult on the nest - and I clearly hear at least one fledgling.
20190708_005.jpg

And someone just flew in from the upper right corner.

This looks like Dee.

And I still here calling - I think Ess is not far away.

6:55 am
Dee is eating, and I no longer hear Ess, though Dee is pausing and looking around while she eats.

Wonderful - you got her fly up to the high branch! Thank you!

This is from when I was doing a look-around on the North cam - I think this is the general direction where she flew - lots and lots of places for a dark brown fledgling to hide!

Dee had finished her meal and just took off from the high perch - and I think she circled around and is now higher up in the tree, hiding behind some leaves - she is getting good!

video coming, but I have a cat who says it's time to chase treats around the kitchen. Back soon.

Congratulations Ess and Dee on your fledges. Such big, beautiful fledglings. Thanks gemini, Bill and Judy for your videos. Hi Beth and Bev.

Thanks for stopping by, Marianne! It is exciting - and somewhat bittersweet - to see them take the next step towards independence.

I suspect Dee is still up there somewhere - but I can't find her.

Adult in with a fish - lots of noise from the upper branches, and eventually Dee flew down and claimed the fish. I'm waiting a bit to check the dvr - but I'm not hearing Ess.... Although I just heard something - but only one call, and not necessarily even an eagle.

I think this is Sur - I didn't see any white stripes, and I think Res may have gotten in the way of a ps, because she seems to have a lot of white on her back last time I saw her.
20190708_013.jpg

Sur took a couple of bites of the fish, then nibbled on leftovers - sort of subtly telling Dee that the fish might be gone if she didn't get down here. The video is going to be almost 4 minutes long - although I may cut the first half since 2 minutes of Sur poking around on the nest listening to Dee yell is probably not essential; the 2 minutes of Dee in the tree are useful - even once I'd spotted her flapping, I couldn't see her unless she moved.

Here she is on the nest - and Sur is quickly leaving.
20190708_014.jpg

Not a great picture, but it shows Dee's tail.
20190708_015.jpg

Added - :vid: Dee Up a Tree (2:38)

Dee flew off at 8:47 am, and someone landed in the upper right a moment later.

Adult back with more food. I definitely hear calling and am assuming it is one of the fledglings in the upper left corner of the screen - and that bird just flew out away from the tree - I was expecting her to loop around and come to the nest - but maybe the other adult had a more interesting meal? Adult is on the nest eating; all is quiet.

I think this is Sur again, and think this was something with legs - maybe squirrel or rabbit?

8:58 am
Sur is looking as if he's planning to dive for cover at any moment, but I'm not seeing or hearing either eaglet.

8:59 am
Sur looks a bit annoyed (which is a way eagles look a lot of the time - but still) - I sort of think he's thinking that he got this great food, and brought it to the nest - and no one cares!
20190708_017.jpg

I do wonder why the eaglet in the tree didn't come back - unless it wasn't an eaglet - I was planning to zoom in once I got done recording the earlier visit - but missed that opportunity.

9:02 am
Lunch time in Maine - I'll watch my iPad and see what happens next.
