Well, I still have not been able to tell which eaglet is on the nest and which one slipped from the little perch. My thought is that it might be fledgling Dee that slipped - she's been doing more flying, but Ess spent a lot of time on the little perch where the adults often sit while Dee was away, and I don't think Ess would lose her balance like that.

Whichever one it was - it's pretty common for eaglets and fledglings to have clumsy moments - like trying to land on a branch and spin around and end up hanging upside down. And they rarely get hurt in that process. I'm pretty sure she's fine - whoever she is!

Oops! (30 seconds)

Right after the oops moment, the other eaglet flew up to the little perch, and moved around comfortably there. Right after that, an adult arrived, and the eaglet turned to look, switched direction on the perch, and flew down to see what the food was.

I'm not sure what the food was, but the eaglet checked it out and left it. It's still there.

Unfortunately I rebooted the North cam so I can't check the tail feathers. I think the videos do appear on YouTube a while after we do a reboot, so if we don't know who is who, I'll check there in a while.

Well, I found another adult perched in the general area where the eaglet disappeared - which makes me pretty certain they know where their fledgling is, and are keeping an eye on her.

I'm pretty sure the adult is up quite a bit higher than it appears from the picture.

I just checked with the other cam, and there's still an adult where I saw one earlier:

And I really don't know if that's the same adult from two angles, or if we've found both of them.

I just heard from gemini, and David Hancock and at least one other person from HWF are at the site looking to see if they can spot the wanderer. Gemini and I compared notes, and we both think it was Dee who slipped - which means she should be able to fly back to the nest since she's done it before. Of course her wings may be a bit tired after her adventures of the last couple of days - but I suspect she'll be back by dark.

Here's a video of the slip - it includes the fly up of the one remaining whose tail I think is Ess's

:vid: Pretty sure this is Ess that flies up after

Thanks for the video, gemini - it does look as if the remaining eaglet is much more comfortable there - which Ess would be after hanging out there while Dee was off flying about.

Adult on the nest - not sure if she(?) brought something, or is nibbling on the thing that was lying there. After calling for a few minutes, the eaglet on the high perch jumped down and is now being fed - and grabbing food herself when the bites aren't quick enough!

And this looks like Ess's tail to me - I can see the bit of white on the very tips of the feathers.

I think I'm only hearing one eaglet calling - but I'm not sure how Ess could call that steadily while eating. But it's probably possible.

3:00 pm
The feeding is continuing. It's quieter now.

3:04 pm
Res (I think) flew up to the little perch, and then flew off.

Ess went back up to the high perch.

6:05 pm Adult in with something at 5:40 pm - A crow followed her in and continued to harrass, so I suspect a crow/baby crows? Mom left the fresh meal and moved over to some leftovers. Ess eventually came down. She wanted to be fed but Mom wasn't cooperating so Ess then moved over to the fresh meal.

:vid: Mom preps the dinner for Ess

After watching Mom a couple of times, I got the distinct impression that she was encouraging Ess to go to the meal she brought in by offering and then refusing to give Ess bites of the leftovers. See even opened whatever it was up for her before looking for leftovers for herself - ah, well maybe I am humanizing !

10:15 pm

Added: And I completely missed Dee's return! It wasn't until I saw BillA's video (Thank you, BillA) of her "fly about" that I realized she had come back. I figure she came home just after I went back on the DVR to record Mom's visit and sure enough it was at 6:04 pm when she came home! I didn't check the live view after I recorded Mom's visit, only before! Duh!

:vid: And she is home again!

Gemini said," ah, well maybe I am humanizing !"
What other point of reference do we have?
I get those same kinda' "I think that's what they're doing" vibes/moments. I use that feeling with much success with my dogs and cats.
Of course, I think they do the same back to me. 😉
