Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
This time he made a tiny leap back up the branch above the nest, and stopped for a minute to contemplate his next move.
Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
He then decided to make his way further up into the tree, where he hid himself behind the foliage and took a long break. After all, he did just finish a bit of a work out, and probably needed a rest.
Cheer!
Heather
We will be returning to the nest on Friday, and can't wait! Hopefully the other baby will have a little more courage, and be joining his/her sibling high up in the tree.Cheer!

Hello Everyone,
Thank you for the compliments Gemini and Marg. It was very exciting to watch. I can't believe how close these 2 are to leaving the nest.
We made a visit last night and one of the babies was sitting in the nest, or what's left of it The other one was sitting on the branch just up from the nest.
The baby in the nest very quickly flew up towards the top of the tree, where he spent some time flapping his wings and hopping around

The baby that was up near the top of the tree, spent most of his time flapping his wings and hopping around
Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
The baby closer to the nest, spent most of the time jumping from the branch just up from the nest to the nest and back
Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
The baby in the upper part of the tree decided to come down to the nest and see what his sibling was nibbling on
He wasn't there long and made his way back up into the top of the tree.Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
Getting to the nest. As some pretty exciting stuff is happening with this pair of babies, I kept thinking to myself that something seems odd with this nest. While both babies were back up on their chosen branches, I decided to take a closer look. Sure enough, half of the nest is missing
Parts of the nest were just dangling with what appears to be a big branch in it. One of the babies is sitting just to the right of the nest. What may be parts of the nest had been placed on top of a pile of branches that had been sitting on the ground just under the nest tree. The smaller branches have been there since I started following this nest this season, with parts of the nest placed neatly on top. My husband and I discussed a few times through out our visits that there may be a possibility that this tree may be taken down once these babies have fledged. As some of the other trees in the area have been cut back significantly and one tree has some yellow tape wrapped around it, indicating that it may be soon to be removed. Hmmmm.Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
Now back to the Eagles.
Ma arrived on the scene with a fish The baby on the branch closest to the nest, quickly entered the nest for something to eat
Ma took off while one of her youngsters had dinner The baby in the upper part of the tree was more interested in hopping around amongst the branches in the upper part of the tree than he was eating.

Ma took a very brief rest in the tree next to the nest tree before flying off. But she very quickly returned with more food
The baby in the top of the tree waisted no time making his way down to the nest It was a mass of wings and the baby from the top of the tree landed in the nest as Ma took off and the baby on the branch avoids them both Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
While his sibling sat over looking the park from her favorite branch, he had a nice dinner
Even though the nest seems to be falling apart, there is still a big enough area for them to enter, one at a time, to eat. But they have been spending more time in the tree, playing, resting, and sleeping. I give it a matter of days that the one baby takes flight, and the other one isn't far behind. We will be back through out the week to check on them. Right now my talons are double crossed for them.
Cheers
Heather
Eventually he made his way back up to the top of the tree. Both babies had their heads under their wings when we left. Hello Everyone,
Thank you for the compliment Annemie.
We visited the nest last night, and there is almost nothing left of the nest. Only one of the babies was sitting on the limb just up from where the nest remains are. I saw no signs of the other baby in the nest tree or in the trees on either side of it.
Here is what is left of the nest.

Every once in a while this baby would let out a peep, and I could hear peeping from off in the distance, so I knew the other baby was in the area.
This little one looked so lonely. I noticed that some of the nest was caught within the limbs just below the nest. Maybe if this tree isn't removed, they'll build there next season. It would be a stronger area than the one above.
