I was just finishing up recording the flounder incident when Sur arrived with another fish - one that was much more to Dee's liking!
20190702_013.jpg

Ess was also more interested, and jumped right down to help - which was Sur's cue to get out of the way!
20190702_014.jpg

Dee knew Ess was hungry - and really wanted this fish - so she did the first thing that came to mind when you're an eagle this age and have a fish this size - she swallowed it!
20190702_015.jpg

It will be clearer in the video. And the video runs on for a while after Dee finished her meal for two reasons. First, because Ess seemed to be stumbling a bit in the nest and I wanted to document that; I was sort of wondering if a eagle's foot can go to sleep while perching, then thought perhaps she landed a bit wrong or on something sharp - and she was moving better after the first few seconds. The second reason is that it suddenly occurred to Ess to look at the last place she saw the fish - that's about 2:25 into the video, and worth skipping ahead to see! The video ends with Ess going back up to her perch (she seemed to be walking normally by then).

:vid: Fast Food! (3:15, both cams)

Adult in around 5:55 pm. Not sure who - not a good image on South cam, and North is pixelated. I think Ess got it, and think it could be a bird.
20190702_018.jpg

I'm pretty sure Ess was lying in the nest, and Dee was perched on the rail - and it was Ess that got it, because Dee stayed on the rail, and I saw feathers for a brief instant, but don't have energy to try to find a clear shot - sorry. This is from the zoomer link and shows Ess eating.
20190702_019.jpg

And after eating most of a flounder and a whole bullhead, I have no clue how Dee could possibly be interested in food.

I'll reboot North in a minute.

Went back to JudyB's last post on the DVR. At 7:01 pm Mom came in with one of her bloody messes. Dee was to the table first but as this particular meal isn't exactly one of her favourites, she ended up turning her beak up at it and allowed Ess who isn't as fussy take over.

:vid: Dee says ugh!

At 7:59, a parent (no spot on tail but also no white stripe on wings) came in with something (I don't know what.) Neither chick even acknowledged the arrival! I am thinking they were both quite full by this time. Parent had a reasonably peaceful meal until the last minute when Dee decided she would like to be fed. It didn't happen!

:vid: A peaceful meal for one of the parents.

Going to check the north cam to see if I can ID the parent and/or the meal. It is pixelating badly.

Went to my editing program - pretty sure this is Mom's tail and it looks like another one of her bloody messes that she brought in.

7-2-2019 7-58 pm b.jpg

Just checked the north cam and it looks like Mom didn't get to eat after all - she was just standing there getting her breath after the heavy delivery!

Back later with the rest of the evening

Good morning, everyone, and thanks for the morning posts!

Marg, I think at least some of that was left from last night - here's a screenshot from 8:15 pm yesterday:
20190702_020.jpg

There was an adult on the nest with the eaglets at 5:23 am, and I'll look for that visit after a quick check of the overnight on the dvr, starting where gemini left off.

Dee left her perch on the side of the nest around 1:10 am and laid down in the nest; Ess was still on the perch. Dee got back up around 2:14 pm. And she laid down again around 4:26 am. Ess changed position several times, but stayed on her perch.

Dee was up and looking around the nest at 4:48 am as it was getting light, and Ess did a bit of flapping a little after 5 am and then went down to join Dee. And that was interesting - she tried walking down then hopped from the bump in the middle.
20190703_001.jpg
20190703_002.jpg

I think Ess was eating some of the leftovers after she came down.

continuing....

An adult arrived at 5:20 am - I think Res, because she stayed a while and fed the chicks. I think this is Ess being fed initially.
20190703_003.jpg

And then Dee joined the feeding.
20190703_004.jpg

I'm pretty sure that she brought something, and looking at her tail, and the color of the nest, I'm guessing it's another of the messy things we suspect are seal placentas.
20190703_005.jpg

She flew off at 5:25 am - and in a moment of clarity on the North cam, I could see her white stripes. I thought I'd seen the tuft of feathers on her head, but the stripes confirm it was Mom.

After Mom left, Dee curled up for a nap, and Ess went back up to her perch.

It's now 7:30 am and I think Dee is eating nestovers, and Ess is on her perch.

Off to reboot the North cam.

Adult in at 8:55 - not sure what, but it contained red meat. I think Ess is eating it.

Wonderful to know that they are both pretty full!

Lunchtime here - I'll try to do a better report later.

Good morning all, Thank you nightowl for putting up the weather report for us this morning.
I was able to see one of the parents but not as clear as Judy, and yes it sure does look like another seal placenta..sure yucky.
I went back but am unable to see any more visits?
They sure have gotten their own personalities. last evening they were picking at each other ( like brothers and sister do ) it was so funny to watch...lol.
I have to head out this morning so may not be on for a while.
Stay safe everyone. :)

Hi everyone - we're back!

I won't get technical, but posts from the last 6 days disappeared, and in the process of bringing them back, we had to delete posts made after about 10 am - so I'm sorry if any of you lost posts in that process.

And I have news! While the forum was down, Dee learned a new trick - see where she's been perching today!
20190703_010.jpg

She even did a big wing-span out there!
20190703_011.jpg

You can also see her on the South cam, over on the right - this is a current screenshot.
20190703_014.jpg

An interesting note - while Dee has been out on her branch, Ess has been sleeping in the nest - perhaps tired after spending her second night up on her perch?

I'm not sure where to put the North cam - Sur just brought a fish (Ess got it) - and we might have missed seeing him in the nest if the cam was looking at Dee's perch.

Thoughts?

It's dinner time here - I do have additional reports from today and will try to get back to post in a little while - though it might not happen until morning. The quick summary is that there have been several food deliveries, both eaglets have been doing normal eaglet things - and the fact Dee hasn't come in from her branch after the delivery at 4:13 tells me Dee has gotten plenty of food already today.

Back in a while - or maybe in the morning.

I'm liking where it is. But, I wish it would quit pixelating!

Me too, Bill (and great to see you here!) - I reboot it as often as I can when it happens, but there's clearly some issue that I'm hoping they'll be able to resolve later this summer, after the eagles have headed off for a bit of a break.

6:28 pm
I'm seeing Ess sort of blocking Dee - but I'm pretty sure that Dee could either go over Ess, or push her aside - so I think Ess may be curious about this new location - the same as Dee was, wanting to sit up beside Ess, though she never stayed there long.
20190703_015.jpg

I'm afraid I'm really out of energy for today - hopefully there won't be any forum issues tomorrow, and I can focus my computer time on catching up here.

Good night, all. :offtobed:

Good morning, everyone - and thanks for the weather, Bev, and thanks to you and Marg for the morning pictures!

I think I've been seeing something interesting this morning - I'm not absolutely positive, but I think that Dee is branching on the high perch where Ess has been sitting, and it's Ess who is exploring the branch to the right of the nest where Dee was yesterday! I may try zooming in on tails and see if I can confirm that, since the North cam needs a reboot.

By the way, I consider both of these locations branching - they are in the nest tree, and the eaglets can get there without flying - but they are outside the nest itself. And yes, the perch on the right is on the sticks they used to build the framework of the nest - but I think the concept is the same as at the Delta nest where there are smaller real branches supporting the nest which the adults use and the Delta eaglets are now using as they begin branching.

Added -

Well, this is very cute - but doesn't provide the right angle for an ID!
20190704_001.jpg

This isn't quite in focus, but this is indeed Ess's more square tail with the bit of white at the end of the feathers.
20190704_002.jpg

Sort of handsome sitting there!

Younger eaglet Ess has the white tips, and I think her tail is a bit more square, while Dee's is a bit more rounded looking, at least some of the time.

I'm doing another reboot of the North cam - still pixelating.

Checking back on the dvr, there was a food drop at 5:46 am - not sure which adult, maybe Mom Res.
20190704_004.jpg

I'm also not sure which eaglet got it or what it was - my impression was long and furry, so maybe squirrel or rabbit.

It's now 8:45 am, and I didn't see any other visits. And I'm out for a while.

Good morning all,

Hoping to be around a bit today -

Dee, I think becoming more independent on Independence day!! A first on this branch I think - at least I haven't seen either one of them there yet! (keep an eye on Ess as she watches closely from below!)

Good morning.

Thanks, Bill for the last video, don't they look handsome sitting there together?

Morning ladies, I was wondering if the last log prey was a rat? I noticed yesterday that one of the eaglets was chomping down a long thin tail..yuck! thee have been a few deliveries like that and they eat fur and all. A good way to keep the problem under control for sure.

I am awestruck o how beautiful our babies look now. When they both perch together. I looked this morning g and I thought one was gone, then I noticed they were on the branch. When they leave, do they just leave or do they go with a parent? Do they come back to the nest again? or is over for the nesting? So many questions here.

I haven't been able to see a drop-off today but I am sure it has happened.

Going back to look around. bye for now.

Hi Bill, Great video of the "Double Trouble!"

Yes, I've seen both on the big branch, I was referring to the one that juts out! At least I think there is a small branch that grows out from the side ... maybe I am seeing things?? Does anyone else see it besides me?
Small branch.jpg
It seems to show up better in a night picture - or is it something else. It's hard to tell!

Glad you caught that, gemini - I was watching some of that! It didn't open for me the first time I tried, so I logged into the YouTube Channel, and I think it might have been marked Private - that's happened to me before, and I have no clue why because I sure didn't pick it. Hope that's OK.

And great video, Bill - you caught so many of their tricks - flapping while they hop-walk up the trunk, hopping over each other while jump-flying down - they are getting good!

And thanks for the night shot of the branch off to the side - I thought Dee had to be on another branch, but couldn't see it among the leaves. I think it's too high to see with the overhead cam, but I may try next time I log in.
