Hello Everyone,
Some very exciting stuff happened yesterday at this nest! I have a few posts!
When we first arrived, one of the youngsters was sitting up preening and just simply looking around while the other one was laying in the nest. Then Ma arrived on the scene with food and the fight was on!

The bigger of the pair won the draw, and the smaller one waited patiently while his sibling ate.
It wasn't long and it was his turn to eat, and the bigger of the pair moved out of the way.
And then it happened!!!!
I nearly jumped out of my skin as I watched the bigger of the pair fly up to the limb just up from the nest!!!Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
I moved in a little closer to see this youngster in among the foliage!
Then she dropped back down to the nest, but she no sooner landed and her sibling was in amongst the foliage to the right of the nest!!
Then he flew down to the nest!!Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
He flew back up into the branches again
I am so excited for this family. I am keeping my talons crossed that this nest holds up, but it's looking pretty good so far!!
Cheers
and landed right in front of his sibling as if to say, 'This is how you do it!'
Then the other youngster no sooner flew up to the other branch, when Ma arrived once again, with more food!
A crow was on the menu this time. There was no fight. Ma fed both babies for a few minutes and then moved up to the tree next to the nest tree and let these two youngsters eat. I am so excited for this family. I am keeping my talons crossed that this nest holds up, but it's looking pretty good so far!!
Cheers

Hi Heather, I just read about your last visit. How exciting to see them both fly up higher in the tree!
I love the Hastings Sreet family.

Hello Marg,
We are so excited that this pair of youngsters have made it this far. I keep nothing but positive thoughts that the nest will hold up. Even though it looks good. I'm so excited to be visiting this nest and can't wait to get back here before they fledge. It seems like only yesterday that the first of them was peeking out of the nest.
Have a good day

Hello Everyone,
Thank you Stim for you compliments!
We visited the nest last night and some pretty exciting stuff was happening, so I will have a few posts, just to cover photos!
When we arrived both babies were in the tree. One was on the branch just up from the nest but quickly moved into the nest where she/he remained for the duration of our visit .
The other baby, however, was high up in the tree doing wingersizes!

Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
He/she spent the first 5 minutes we were there wingersizing and hopping around!
He finally came to a stop on a branch just over the nestRe: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
He looked as if he was going to make a big jump to the nest,
but he turned back
That was for a brief moment, then he decided to make a small leap and landed lower on the branch just up from the nest Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
After a few seconds, I held my breath as I watched him make an awkward landing in the nest!
Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
He continued to flap his wings, and hop around as his sibling looked on.
Next thing I knew, he was back up on the branch!Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
Continually flapping his wings he made an about face. And made another attempt at landing in the nest!
Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
With one big leap!
Re: Hastings Street/PNE Nest, Vancouver - 2018 & 2019
He made a beautiful landing! But his stay in the nest was short lived!
