Rip 2019

+ April 6/7 - Sheperdstown, W.Virg : BE eaglet ANGEL,

Message from Debs on the NCTC thread viewtopic.php?p=179620#p179620
"A heartbreaking loss at the NCTC nest this morning; one of the baby eaglets (Angel) has passed away possibly due to trauma although we do not know the cause for sure. Things were going well at this nest so the loss is especially sad.
Yesterday the two chicks (Hope and Angel) explored the nest for the very first time ... they moved up to the rails and enjoyed two feedings at the side of the nest. Food was plentiful and the chicks were adventurous and active everything looked great last night.
This morning we woke up to one of the chicks (Angel) laying lifeless at the top of the nest by the fish pantry! So unexpected and a shock for all of us that follow this sweet eagle family" Merci Debs.

Rip 2019

+ May 27 - Big Bear, Ca : BE eaglet COOKIE,
A terrible week at Big Bear in May, cold, rain, snow, a banding day (not so neutral for eaglets).
After a last day in the rain and cold, the snow that fell all night, despite the return of good weather and a beautiful view, Cookie finally let go and went away this early morning (08h30) as quietly as he lived. Rest In Peace little Cookie, where you are now you will never suffer anymore. :bye 1: Cookie, 42 days old. :cryhanky: :brknhrt:

You're welcome Lanie !

As today is the 3rd day Simba, Cookie's sibling, seems to be better and better, (he was weak before and i can almost say it began just after Cookie left us), it is time for me to say a last "au revoir" to a so marvellous Cookie with a magnific video from knarley123

Cookie of Big Bear Lake lived a very short life. He was loved dearly by all and touched thousands of hearts, he will be missed terribly.
Here is a short video of some of my favorite clips of Cookie, Simba, Shadow and Jackie.
May Cookie fly high on angels wings now and forever. ❤
Merci Knarley123

and also a superb pic credit to Ned Clancy, thanks to him for being there at this special moment.
I find it at https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid ... =3&theater
on the FB page of Friend of Big Bear Valley just after the death of Cookie
You can see Simba (13 days old) and Cookie (12 days old) It appeared to me … like a premonition ?

Simba is the left one, Cookie is the right one
It seems like if Cookie was already, so young, watching toward the heavens...
And have a look at Simba's face, it seems also so sad.
May be, so young, they already knew something about Cookie's destiny.

Rip 2019

+ June 20 to 24 - Beacon Hill Park Eagles, Victoria, BC : 2 BE eaglets BHPE#1 & BHPE#2.

A tragedy at Beacon Hill Park. I tried to summarize what happened in this area

June 2019
The 3rd. 2 beautiful eaglets in the nest
The 15th. One adult in the nest
The 17th. Some people think the 2 eaglets fledged away or hidden in the trees around
The 20th. One fledged eaglet and two adults were seen at or around the nest.
The 24th. Two adults were seen in the early morning. A neigbour was able to see the eaglets but no movements detected. He contacted the official services. :cry1: :brknhrt:
The 27th. A guy up to an adjacent tree from where he confirmed two eaglets were dead in the nest. One climbed to the nest and brought down the two poor little bodies for analysis. :cry1: :brknhrt:
the 29th. One saw an adult eagle circling near the nest :luck:
July 2019
the 6th. An adult is sitting in the nest

Thanks to Sassyk for the 3 following pics. all 3 are dated June 03. I let you imagine how both eaglets seemed like 3 weeks later... :cryhanky:

+ July 06 or 07 - near Redding, Ca : Hawklet in a bald eagle nest TUFFY.

How in 3 weeks a little hawklet could he capsize so much heart? No one knows, but its short life has left such an imprint on our lives. Rest in peace little Tuffy, you have all life before you now with all those who have precede you. You will always feel that love and tenderness that you have beautifully created around you. Thank you for everything :rh: Tuffy :rh: !

Thanks a lot to Terri/Eaglewoman for these 3 pics of Tuffy and its eagle family

Update on Tuffy the Red-tailed Hawklet & the Eagle Family for Monday July 8th, 2019:
I'm so heartbroken to report to you that our concern for little Tuffy is growing day by day. We have not seen Tuffy in or near the nest since Friday 7/5/19 around 7:30 pm when my husband & I were out there checking on the raptor family. Tuffy & the 2 eaglets & both adults looked fine & all was well when we left the area that evening.

On Saturday 7/6 ... We left the area at 8:30 pm as we were losing light.

On Sunday morning I was out there at 6:00 am & Tuffy was still not back up in the nest? I watched 2 feedings by Mama Eagle & thought for sure Tuffy would fly in to get fed! But, the feedings passed & still no sign of Tuffy? ….
… My husband was nice enough to go back out there on Sunday evening around 5pm to check the area again. Still no sign of our little Tuffy?!?
So, we decided we should go check under the base of the nest tree to see if we could spot any signs of Tuffy? My husband saw some black bear scat at the base of the tree & we found a few more piles of bear scat nearby. Then, we found a few feathers that looked like they could be hawk feathers? We kept searching the area for about 30 minutes or so & were about to head back down when my husband spotted a lot of what looked like hawk(banded brown & white) feathers scattered all over the ground!!! My heart sank as I thought I could be seeing all that was left of our courageous, inspirational little Tuffy....
Now, of course we don't know 100% for sure those feathers did belong to Tuffy, but things are not looking good. :( As hard as this is for me to tell you & for each of you to hear, I want to be perfectly honest with all of you who have fallen so deeply in love with our little Tuffy. It's the least I can do…
I checked the nest again this morning for several hours in hope of a miracle but still no sign of Tuffy, no calling or flying around the nest area? We will wait a few more days & continue to check the nest for any signs of Tuffy showing up before we assume that Tuffy has left us & his adopted eagle family & this Earth we inhabit…
Thank you all again for being on this incredible journey with Tuffy & the Eagle Family! We have all been awed & inspired by this courageous little red-tailed hawklet & we are still holding out hope for a miracle!!!
Please continue to keep Tuffy in your thoughts & prayers! ~Terri

Between Tuffy and the Beacon Park Eaglets sadness, joy over Tuffy's life, yet, so much more to be.

We delve deeply into the lives of our feathered friends,
we never know what the journey will bring,
sometimes great joy, sometimes great sadness....
and we know all along this is the way of nature, so....

Cling to some joy, cry some tears and know all is in God's hands.

+ July 25 at 02h02 - Hog Island (Me): Rachel and Steve 's younger osplet Dion .
Brought by a GHO. :( :cry1: :brknhrt:

Like the two previous seasons, it appears that this nest serves as a feeder for the GHO in the area. Rachel did try to save her baby but with her left leg injury she was not quick enough to save Dion. Coincidence or not, Rachel was injured while her cubs were ringed and she had to flee her nest, hence her possible encounter with an intruder bald eagle or osprey.
RIP little Dion ! Halley, you must be strong for two now :rh: . :luck: against the GHO :luck: .

Romeo, last time insight
in mid-October, the time has finally come to greet Romeo one last time, father of so many marvelous eaglets, husband and lover so faithful to his tender and irreplaceable Juliet.

Alone since December 17, 2018 after the sudden disappearance of his beloved Juliet, he remained to take care of his two eggs until the end releasing his supervision only to feed and survive to give them a chance in life.
Fate did not see it that way. December 25, 2018, Christmas day, just before his little NE20 came into the world, Romeo went fishing and on his return he found an empty shell. Only some have witnessed the horror unfolded before their eyes. Even the non viable egg was looted.

The next day for the last time Romeo flew away. Everyone (so do I) likes to believe that he has gone back to his "Belle" and that they live happily and benevolently towards their successors on this side of life or can be on the other but gathered for eternity …

A glimpse of history, the cherry on the cake, December 28, 2018 an unexpected visit of an eagle, adult, who had already been there the previous summer. The famous Samson, son of Romeo and Juliet who, this October 16, 2019, day that I write his words prepares his nest (of birth) with Gabrielle and who knows will also be at the head of a numerous descendants,God willing, those of Romeo and Juliet of the fact. The circle is complete.

Without Past, there is no Future !

To all of you, Fly Free, Fly High with always a Full Crop and don't forget all of you,
You will never be alone, You will live for the Eternity in our Heart.
