Res moved over to what was left of the fish she brought in earlier.

Dee was there for the first bite

And Ess also got lots of bites.

There was not a lot of fish, but it made a nice snack, and Mom is now looking around for leftovers to feed.

1:37 pm Kids are in the middle of a feed. Ess is managing to hold h/h own getting almost as many bites as Dee. Ess on the right I think! So hard to tell them apart!

I think I got confused at some point. As of 1:56 pm, Sur is on the nest
20190514_020.jpg

And he may have done the most recent feeding - angle wasn't great for an ID, and I hadn't noticed a switch. Took a quick look back and don't know when he arrived - my hands are bothering today (rainy day in Maine as well as in BC), and I need to be careful to not use the mouse too much.

Or else Res now has a light tattered feather - it looks like her eye - and everyone is looking a bit wet and muddy. I give up! :mihihi: There's an adult there, and they've had food - I'll just stick with that.

I think maybe it's been Res all along. She just took a mini-break and flew up to her perch by the nest, and I could clearly see her white stripes - so I'm thinking one of her feathers needs preening and may be looking a bit like Sur's lighter tattered one. Hopefully once they all dry out we'll have that clue back!

Ess has a bit of down or a feather stuck to his/her head - sort of cute.

They're both looking so big!

2:59 pm
Sur arrived, looking a whole lot drier than Res.
20190514_024.jpg

He did bring food, another bird, I think (I think this one was dead, but I didn't look too closely).
20190514_025.jpg

He pulled something out of the food area - maybe a piece of skin? - and flew off with it.

Res claimed the food, prepared it, and started a feeding.

3:06 pm
Sur was back with another dark bird.
20190514_027.jpg

My brain is thinking it's good that he's found a source of food for his growing chicks, but my heart isn't crazy about this particular food source.
20190514_028.jpg

He was back a minute later with something lighter - not sure what - looked small and gray; he left it near where Res is feeding, and moved up to the perch.

This was cute - both chicks grabbed for something, then had a bit of a tugging match!
20190514_030.jpg

3:14 pm
Sur flew off a minute ago, and Res is continuing to feed the chicks.

Sur is back with something else - I think a fish.
20190514_031.jpg

Which makes me think his previous delivery was also a fish, since it looked similar. I wasn't thinking he could find fish that fast - but perhaps both the birds and the fish are out now that the rain has let up.

3:19 pm
Res just flew off. Sur did a bit of calling, and is now digging around in the food corner. The new fish is still behind the chicks as far as I know.

Blurry shot - but look how big Dee's wings are! Wow!!

Ess is interested in getting under Dad - and I think Dee may be interested in the fish.

3:43 pm Sur flew up to the perch where he remained watching over his sleeping chicks until.
5-14-2019 3-46 pm.jpg

4:38 when he jumped back down into the nest and picked up a bird from the side of the nest and started preparing for a feed.

Both chicks got many bites with perhaps Ess coming out the winner this time! – I have noticed that Sur makes a point of offering bites to Ess and even stops Dee from taking them away quite often during a feed. Feed over at 4:59, chicks went into a food coma and Dad dug around in the nest for awhile before settling beside his comatose kids.

Res flew in with a fish at 5:41 pm

and Sur left almost right away.

Another feed began but only Ess took part. Dee was flaked out on the other side of the nest and didn't move!

Feed over at 5:48 - Res dug around in the nest for a bit and Sur arrived back again at 5:58 pm with some more groceries - another bird - and deposits it beside Mom then leaves less than a minute later
5-14-2019 5-58 pm.jpg

and Mom moves to start another feed at 6:07 pm.

Dee not interested until 6:15 and only somewhat. She had a few bites and then Ess came back in, not giving up until 6:28. Dee had a couple more bite and also quit. Feed over at 6:30 pm. I think Ess got more than her share today for a change and does it ever show! Look at that crop!

Meal over the kids settle in with Mom until she left at 7:28 pm and returned at 7:40 with a huge wad of grass.

Ess thought she should eat again so Mom dragged out some leftovers. At first Dee wasn't interested but joined in soon after.

Feed ended at 7:52 pm and all retired to the bowl for a rest.

At 8:18 Sur arrived with a fish. I guess he thought since he brought in a fish he was entitled to some leftovers for an award and ..... Well let's just say Res had other ideas!

:vid: Res and Sur have a difference of opinion!

After Mom finished her fish, Mom sat with the kids until they were asleep and then she moved up to her night perch at 9:03 pm All are asleep now.
