Yes this is a lot of work for Pa - and I know this happened a few years back with him, but I think those chicks may have been a bit older than these ones. I don't see him at the nest right now so he's probably out hunting. I will be one block away from the nest working in a garden today so I will be able to keep a very close eye on things.

Pa is on his branch - I can see one chick moving about in the nest. But no sign of Lady. It been 9 days now, I wonder where she is?

The chicks were older when we lost Ma Lafarge, I think 6 or 7 weeks old - but I have seen single parents raise chicks this young at other nests, though I have also seen times when it didn't work out.

Nine days is a long time - but I'm still keeping my fingers crossed.

I really want things to work out for these chicks. Pa has been so attentive (as far as I can tell). I saw him eating a meal this morning, and right now looks like there is a feed going on. 2 days ago I went to AN and had a look but nothing was going on there. I was hoping to have spotted Lady in there. Oh well...

Well Pa is still on his own at the Pandora nest. I can see at least one chick who is getting much bigger so that is a good sign. It's been a couple weeks now and I don't if Lady will come back, but I am still hoping.

Thanks for the update, Eastvan Girl - and the odds are improving as the chick or chicks get bigger. Keeping fingers crossed.

Oh my Christine and Judy, I find this most upsetting. I do hope that if Pa is now a single parent that he can take in enough food to feed them both. He is a very experienced and capable parent but with a huge task ahead.
Have you thought about calling OWL to see if a female eagle was admitted or reported injured within the timeframe that our Lady went missing?

Hi Sandra,
Yes it is distressing that Lady is gone. I have called O.W.L. recently and someone elses (Sharon) asked about a week ago if any eagles have been brought in, but no, not our Lady. In the meantime, I am keeping a really good watch on the nest. I can see one of the eaglets getting quite big so looks like Pa is getting enough food for them. I have gone over to the nest numerous times to get a photo but it must be their nap time every time I go. Anyway, I think all of our fingers are crossed that either Lady comes back.

Thanks Christine. Good you've got Sharon's support. I anticipate more will come forward as I hate to think of you going through this alone. :grhug:

Hi Everyone,
Here is a photo I took from my window, sorry it is a bit blurry. It is Pa feeding the two chicks in the nest. One is a bit bigger than the other. I am happy to see there are still two chicks doing okay.

Thank you for the update Christine! I wonder if he manages to keep them full or if they are asking for food a lot. Poor guy has a huge undertaking to deal with. :(

Some interesting activity above the nest last evening. Both chicks were in the nest, I couldn't see Pa at the nest, but there were two bald eagles flying above the tree along with what looked like a junior eagle (dark head). One of the bald eagles then landed on a East branch (not one Pa usually goes to) and I really thought it may have been Lady coming back. The eagle then moved into the nest with the chicks and the other eagle in the sky left, along with the junior. I have no idea what all that was about but I was really hoping it was Lady. I kept an eye on the nest for a while, but since then I have only seen one eagle with the chicks. The chicks are getting much bigger which is good.

Thanks, Eastvan Girl - interesting indeed! And I'm glad to hear that both are continuing to do well - they do grow very fast at this stage!

I'm so glad you're there to keep an eye on them - and thank you for your report!

Hi everyone,
Well Pa was on his branch this morning and I saw a single adult eagle fly over the nest, circle around and then head back out north. Pa stayed at the tree the whole time. Just kinda curious as to who that eagle is and why they are checking things out at the tree?
