Swan Lake Eagles, Saanich BC - 2018/2019 Season
Re: Swan Lake Eagles, Saanich BC - 2018/2019 Season
I checked on the eagles nest yesterday and didn't see or hear the eagles anywhere in the area. The nest looks like it might have lost some sticks in one of the wind storms I'll check again in a few days.

Re: Swan Lake Eagles, Saanich BC - 2018/2019 Season
I visited the nest area yesterday and saw both eagles perched high up in their old nest tree.
Their nest looks like it needs some TLC I'm hoping they are going to produce a family this season,
but it looks doubtful

Re: Swan Lake Eagles, Saanich BC - 2018/2019 Season
I got a report a few days ago that the eagles had been actively bringing sticks to the nest and spending more time around the nest tree. I went to have a look today and sure enough one of the eagles was in the nest incubating I didn't see or hear the other eagle in the area. I'll post a few photos later.

Re: Swan Lake Eagles, Saanich BC - 2018/2019 Season
Some photos of the eagle in the nest yesterday. Certainly appeared to be incubating
I believe it was the female and her tail feathers are visible on the right side of the trunk.
These first 2 were taken from the street looking into the front of the nest
from different vantage points along the street.
This one was taken from the lane looking at the side of the nest. The
wind was blowing so I didn't get many photos from this vantage point.

Re: Swan Lake Eagles, Saanich BC - 2018/2019 Season
I visited the nest area today. There was an eagle perched in a tree near the nest tree and it looked like a sub-adult with a few dark feathers on its head and dark at the end of its tail feathers.
I walked up the lane and saw the female lying down in the nest incubating

When I got back to my vehicle the neighbours were out so I chatted with them. The sub-adult flew off and was being chased by a crow. He didn't come back. As I was getting into my vehicle to leave the female in the nest got up so off I went to get some more photos. She was looking around and watching the sub-adult flying around the area.
She was trying to look up to see the sub-adult; funny pose.

I wandered up the lane again and got a photo of the female sitting on the side of the nest.
I left and went to Swan Lake where I spotted the male in a tree near the Nature House.

Re: Swan Lake Eagles, Saanich BC - 2018/2019 Season
I visited the nest area on June 10th. The male was perched in the old nest tree but I didn't see or hear the female. I did not see any action in the nest so I'm not sure if this pair have produced any eaglets this season. My birding partner will try to contact the property owner for information.

Re: Swan Lake Eagles, Saanich BC - 2018/2019 Season
It seems the eagles have not produced any young again this year My fellow WiTS monitor contacted the property owner who said the eagles hadn't been around the nest much in the past few weeks
