Hi everyone! We could use more observers at our HWF nests, if anyone has a bit of time - thanks!
Announcement
We are on hatch watch at two of our HWF cam nests, Surrey Reserve and Delta 2 - and we would love to have more people watching and posting observations there!

Surrey Reserve
Today is Day 36 for the first egg - this is our first year watching this nest, so we don't know when their first egg usually hatches, but eagle eggs usually hatch between 35 and 40 days, so we could see a pip (the initial hole in the shell) at any point.

Link to our observation thread - viewtopic.php?f=114&t=333&start=2100

The female is named Res and the male is named Sur - for Surrey and Reserve; there are pictures to help you know who is who in the opening posts of the thread - but at this point we're most interested in pictures of the eggs, especially once a pip is confirmed.

Here is gemini's screenshot of Mom Res turning the eggs from yesterday:

Delta 2
Today is Day 35 for the first egg; the Delta 2 pair often delays incubation of the first egg so both hatch within a day or so - so don't be surprised if the first egg doesn't hatch until Monday or Tuesday or even Wednesday.

The parents are called Ma Delta and Trooper, and there are ID pictures in the opening posts. This is Trooper's first year at the nest - he's been great tending the eggs, and we're waiting to see his reaction when the eggs start peeping and demanding food!

Here is SueB's screenshot from yesterday of Ma with the eggs:

Please join us at one of these nests and help us document the action!

At Dale Hollow tonight an owl attacked Mom River ( no problems for the 3 eaglets even if the owl stayed a couple of minutes close to the nest.
River is back this morning and already fed DH6, DH7 and DH8

Ugh, we could do without these annoying owls in our nests. Thank God he/she didn’t take any eaglet! Thanks Phil for the link :huggie:

two days ago we had the sauces only eaglet who fell on his back and got stuck in it, he couldn't get up. he was trying hard and got exhausted. audacity/mom was watching him helpless... it lasted 2 hours and mom started to dig nest material all around him and finally he was able to free himself

so scary!

The Washington Post newspaper ran a feature about the TRIO nest.
Date: 13 April 2019
I didn't post the link, but if you Search for
Washington Post, Trio Eagles you will see it.
For those of you who already follow this nest, nothing new.
But I think it is neat that the Post picked it up. :)

Little big bear #2 has hatched yesterday. he did it ok and fast- no shell stuck on him.
Shadow must go fishing now. mom brought food yesterday and the day before. he's a very young dad, he still has brown on his head and his tail is brown with white on it. he needs to learn everything but he needs to learn it fast.

:grhug: for my French friends re Notre Dame.

I visited Paris and, of course, Notre Dame many years ago. A wonderful memory. It is a sadness not just for France but for the world. Just thankful no one was hurt. It will be rebuilt!

Congrats to Big Bear. Did I read somewhere that Shadow is a sibling of Mrs. BB? Anyway, he is at least brooding while Mrs. BB goes hunting, so... :luck:

I took this scap from Decorah babies :rh:
DM2 the new dad is an excellent provider and mom D is... Mom D.
I asked lady hawk about shadow being an offspring of mom BB. she's more an expert than me on this nest. Shadow is not Jackie Mom big bear offspring... she's only 6 years old lol.

Hi Pascale.

Great scap of the Decorah cuties. I was watching that cuddle puddle scene live. Gotta love the sibling pillow lol.

Thanks for trying to find out about Shadow. I know he's not Mrs. BB's offspring. I thought I read that he might be her younger brother, but I could be mistaken about that too. I don't follow this nest closely, but look in from time to time. Wishing them well.
