Re: Practice Thread
I've tweaked one of my pictures of our cat Chelsea Girl so it's 1.7 MB and 3000 pixels wide - trying to add it now.
Success!
So why couldn't mmud post his picture here - it was only 2000 wide, and slightly smaller than the image I'm posting.

Re: Practice Thread
Judy, I just tried to post another picture 3000 x 2250 5.04 MB Wouldn't post!
Just changed the compression 20 "steps" and had no problem posting (originally said percentage but it actually lowers the MB more than 20 % so I have called the increments "steps)
3000 x 2250 1.12 Mb Going to see if I can find an upper limit.
3000 x 2250 4.40 MB won't post
3000 x 2250 3.6 MB
I lowered the compression one "step" from the pic above which came to 3.5 MB when I saved and it posted. I bet the upper limit is 4.0 MB I can't get it to exactly 4.0
This might explain why Scott's photos won't post! The better your equipment the bigger the photos are! When I went from my older camera to my newer one I noticed the MB increased a bit - but It didn't affect my posting because I always post all my pics at 1250 - 1280 pixels wide so my MB were well within range (and I don't have top notch camera.)

Re: Practice Thread
Scott’s picture he posted before but couldn’t post earlier today is 2000 pixels wide and under 1.5 MB - and I couldn’t post it the first time I tried but have several times since then. I’ve asked him to try again - so we’ll see what happens.
The forum is configured to refuse pictures above 4 MB - but I can’t think what is kicking in when a picture is more than 3000 pixels wide.
And I see Scott can now post his picture!

Re: Practice Thread
Maybe it's a board thing - it doesn't like little pictures and it doesn't like big pictures.
I just tried a 3500 x 2625 3.23 mb and failed! I definitely can't post anything over 3000 pixels wide no matter what the MB.

Re: Practice Thread
That seems to be the same with mine Sharon.
1.87 mb pic taken with my camera 2014. Dimensions 2000 x 1328 Posts fine. 2.7 file also posts.
2.9 mb and larger gives http error.

Scott, if the pixels and the MB are both under the limit and won't post, then something else must be at play here.by mmud » Fri Feb 15, 2019 7:10 pm

Testing............
Nope. Tried 3.93 MB and 1.01 MB and neither one will post. Like I said before, I do not get the " place in line option" even though both pic sizes get the green bar indicating they are acceptable size. HTTP error both times.

Re: Practice Thread
Elle, do you know how many pixels wide your pictures are? It shouldn't matter, but both gemini and I had trouble with pictures that were more than 3000 pixels wide.
And the green bar means it's loading - and when it finishes loading, it should change to a green checkmark like the top one in this screenshot:
It would seem if the green bar made it all the way across that we'd be in good shape, but that hasn't been my experience - it has to go to a checkmark before you get the "place inline" button.
I think we've gathered some more data since I last sent a summary to David Hathaway, so I'll pass on what we've learned (and thank you all for your help with this!) - and I think I have enough info to open a help thread on the forum for the phpBB software, in the hopes that the experts there can see something we've missed.

Re: Practice Thread
I just read the previous postings about pixels and file size. Very helpful to me.
I knew my original files, over 4000 would not post.
I changed to 500 pixels and that seemed to work, but would be interested to know what the limits are.
This photo isn't that interesting, but I did get 2 minutes of video of this eagle eating the fish, trying to swallow the tail in several attempts ...not as good as Harriet
I even got the vocals!

Re: Practice Thread
The forum is set to not allow photos over 4 MB, and we really don't want to change that; there shouldn't be a limit as to the width of the image, but it seems that those over 3000 pixels wide are rejected. We haven't figured why yet - but we will. If you have some expertise in this area, please let me know - I'm learning as fast as I can, but working with someone who understands this better would help.Sunnybird1995 wrote: ↑Sun Feb 24, 2019 4:42 pmI just read the previous postings about pixels and file size. Re: Practice Thread
We are still working on that, elle - I'm sorry for the delay, but there's a lot that needs doing right now.
Gemini found a program on the internet that will resize your photos so they will post - details are in Helpful Hints here - viewtopic.php?p=26379#p26379.
