Good morning! Mrs BB was the first to visit the nest this morning. Rested on the snowy nest briefly. Her wings look frosted with the fresh falling snow.

She went to the exit branch and flew off.
Shadow flew in later with a meal. Shadow is eating his meal. A bird of some soft but I can't tell what.

Good morning everyone!
Shadow arrived at 9:22 am. The nest bowl is filled with fresh snow. Mrs BB arrives a few moments later. Both eagles went to perch on the exit branch.

Re: Big Bear CA 2018-2019
Good morning, Rita, Ferenz and all! I'm not that good at judging the age of eagles - has there been something said about Shadow's likely age? If I had to guess, I'd say he's a fourth-year bird (which as I understand it means he'd be 4 years old this spring) - he seems to have more dark feathers than I'd expect on an eagle that's almost 5 years old. I know of one female who nested successfully as a 4-year-old (K46 from the IWS nest at Pelican Harbor on Santa Cruz island off the coast of California; her mate was 5) - but am not remembering a 4-year-old male raising chicks, though it may well have happened.
Anyway, if there is any info about Shadow, I'd be interested to know what the experts say. Thanks!

Thank you for posting Ferenz. Could just be me but I don't think there will be eggs on the nest this year. Shadow is just too young.
Hi JudyB. Have no answers for you. I'm not a fb member. The Friends of Big Bear Valley have nothing posted on the website about Shadow.
Mrs BB was on the nest this morning. Tested out the nest bowl that is covered in snow. She went to the exit branch and flew off moments later.

Mrs BB and Shadow were both at the nest this evening.
Mrs BB rests in the nest bowl again for a few minutes. Shadow went to the exit branch and Mrs BB is still resting in the nest bowl area. A few moments later Mrs BB got up and went to the exit branch and flew off. It was good to see them both.

Re: Big Bear CA 2018-2019
Sorry JudyB forgot to add that my best guess on Shadow's age is that he is a 4 yr old. You can see his tail pretty well in Ferenz's post from February 17th. His tail feathers are still quite dark. He still has quite a few dark head feathers too. When Mrs BB first came to the nest she looked the same way. Probably a 4 year old She did not have eggs that year. As you said....we wait and see.JudyB wrote:

Hi Ferenz and JudyB.
It's been a very rainy windy day at Big Bear. The wind gusts sound quite strong at the nest.
5:47 pm Mrs BB and Shadow came to the nest. They only stayed a few minutes. Hunkered down in the wind gusts. Both flew off toward the lake area. Hope they find shelter and can dry out tonight. Both of them are drenched with the rain.
Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Hi Ferenz, JudyB and all. Well it's yet another snowy day at Big Bear. This day held a huge surprise that I for one was not expecting. Around 1:28 pm today Mrs BB (also known as Jackie) layed an egg. I circled the egg in this scap. Mrs BB is incubating the egg. I didn't see Shadow at all in the rollback.

Re: Big Bear CA 2018-2019
Shadow did show up and was able to see the egg. He didn't incubate.
5:16 pm Shadow brings Mrs BB a meal. Again Shadow made no attempt to incubate the egg.
