Thanks so much, Sue for zooming. I do think I will call it a night. Maybe you can correct the far right tower visit. I kinda got lost there as thought both were there but could only find one when one flew. Have a good night and talk later. SEDs

4:59 pm - I went back to the rollback and after the first eagle flew towards the nest the other one came from over by the old nest tree and around the stick tree before coming into the nest

I just found out that I got lucky and actually had the cam on the trees by the school when both adults landed. Will be posting s'caps shortly.

5:05 pm - here's Ma flying off the nest....look at those feet!

Ma's tail as she flies over the building in front of the tree

And Ma as she approaches the trees and close to where she lands.....she lands closer to that bright light just up and to the left of where I have her pointed out.

5:07 pm - and here are Ma (left), and Trooper (right) when zoomed out from the tree. Thank goodness for the rollback.....and luckily, even though I kept moving the stinkin' cam around when I first started following Ma.....in the end, she was still in sight going out there. I could not see a thing on the little zoomer cam screen and it wasn't until I was able to take a good look at the rollback that I was able to find them. So happy to see that they are together for the night.

6:08pm.....Wow, great observations and zooming tonight Sue and Sandy! My apologies about that wrong ID on the second eagle........had thought that cam was aimed at the same bird and didn't realize there were two there. And I left right then so wasn't here to see my error. That second one was definitely Trooper.

I have to agree about the rollback. When one is zooming, and things are happening quickly, they don't see small details as they are busy with the big picture. Same thing last night........never saw that adult flying to the school trees................but the rollback saw it. This is such a valuable tool to have and I am relieved it is working fine right now. :thumlft:

Great job today everyone! :grhug:

Thank You!
We are off to a great start on our Fall fundraising drive and thanks to many of you, we have raised over $3000 towards expenses for the Harrison Mills cams, for an improved internet service for all our cams, and for our general forum expenses.

We have 10 new nest adoptions:
Delta 2:
Alice and Richard Currie (Lantz_56)

Harrison Mills:
Irish Eyes
Kyle and Neil Hardy
gemini
Irish Eyes in Honor of Chips
Yolande Proctor

Surrey Reserve:
Irish Eyes
JudyB
gemini

White Rock:
Sandy_W
And a number of other donations towards our general expenses. :thumlft:

I should mention that all donations go where they are needed the most, so when I adopted Surrey Reserve, I knew the money I donated would probably not be used for the Surrey Reserve cams - which are sponsored by Dawson & Sawyer, the developers who worked with David Hancock and the City of Surrey to make sure their housing project included a home for the eagles as well as the homes for people they were building. However, by adopting the Surrey Reserve nest, I'm letting David Hancock know that I'm excited about this opportunity to meet a new pair of eagles, and see how they adapt to the nest that was built just for them. And I'm happy to report that they seem to be moving in - we've seen them bringing in nesting material and some branches! Here's a great picture by gemini of one of them moving a large wishbone-shaped stick they brought in a minute earlier, while the other one looks on to make sure it's placed just right:

And I'm realizing that while this is a fundraising drive, perhaps I should also be calling it an Activity Drive. We do need financial support to keep this wonderful organization and website and forum and cameras going - but we also need more people to watch the cameras and post observations. If you look at the threads for our primary nests (Delta 2, Harrison Mills, Surrey Reserve and White Rock), you'll see that most of the posts on each thread are by the same 3 or 4 people. And they would love some help!

You don't need to know which eagle is which - just post the time (the nests are on Pacific time, so that's what we use for posting) and what you saw - "An adult eagle landed on the nest" or "some bird I can't identify was perched next to the nest for a few minutes" or "a very brave squirrel was sitting in the nest." Most of the time, the Topic Assistants, Zoomers and other frequent posters can use the DVR function on the cam to look back to the time of your event and add more details and a screenshot - but it's so much easier if they know where to look. And they will be happy to share the clues they look for to know which adult is which - or their knowledge of other birds seen in the area. You don't need to watch constantly, or commit to watching at a certain time - just whenever you happen to be watching, post what you see. Or didn't see - a post like "I was watching the North cam from 10:30 to 11:00 and did not see any activity on the nest" is actually very helpful as we learn when the eagles are most likely to visit at this time of year.

People who watch a lot and post a lot are great - as are large donations. But we also need people who can post their observations occasionally or who can give $25 or $50, or join our monthly donor program at $10 or S20/month. There's a song I learned years ago with the line "Many stones can form an arch, singly none, singly none." Our new Surrey Reserve cams aren't that far from the Peace Arch - and I'm visualizing how all of our observations and donations can build a mighty arch of information about eagles and encourage people to make decisions to support the eagles and other wildlife that share the planet with us. Please help.

You can click here to go to our donations page - and remember that the amounts listed under various projects like Eagle Cam Repairs and Monthly Support are suggestions - you pick the amount you give. Thank you.

If you have questions, please contact me ([email protected]) or gemini ([email protected]).

7:02 am - well, well....here is one of our eagles at the pole to the right of the center tower
2018-11-09 10_03_01-Greenshot.jpg
And the other is at the far right tower.....guess that was them chattering earlier, probably as they were flying by the nest tree....hmmm, do eagles chatter as they fly? Not sure...maybe they were perched somewhere off the nest tree when they were having their discussion.
