:ty: so much Terri !
I put it directly in my Solo's folder.
After almost two years (only) spent beside (by screen) all these beautiful raptors i became too sensitive… Even the fact to discover the Patriot's plaque makes my :cry1: coming (Strange cause i didn't know him before i followed brave Solo short life…) :huggie:

You are such a sweet, sensitive soul Phil! :huggie:
When you love with all of your heart like you do, it is very painful when we lose what we love so dearly...

I checked on Liberty & Spirit's progress at the Riverview golf course on Monday!

They have enlarged the red-tailed hawk's nest so that they can both fit inside of it already!!! Both L & S were busy bringing in sticks when I arrived at 7:15am...

Yes Phil, we will not be able to install an Eaglecam this season now that the eagles are back in the area.

We actually have not been seeing our eagles in the Turtle Bay area much at all this season? Last year, they were working on their old nest at Turtle Bay, while simultaneously building a new nest at Riverview! So, they were actively defending & spending time in the TB nest unti February 2018 when they laid their eggs in their new nest at Riverview.

I started to think that perhaps L & S had given up on the northern end of their nesting territory altogether? Perhaps relinquishing it and allowing one of their offspring who is of breeding age to take over that part of their nesting territory?

It makes sense to me that as the eagle population in our area increases, the size of the nesting territories will begin to shrink. It just seemed very odd to me that L & S were not spending any time in the northern end of their nesting territory? This is not normal behavior for them! For the past 14 years, the eagles have always returned in October and spent time in the TB area. We used to have a large Fall Chinook Salmon Run in the Sacramento River in that area, so the eagles would feast on the dead carcasses. The salmon population in that same area has greatly declined, but the eagles were still able to find plenty of trout & coots in that end of their territory.

But, something seems different this year? Now, just because we don't see them doesn't mean they couldn't be there! We have a lot of eyes on that area, and a Highway Bridge that goes right through the middle of it! So, we can see all of their favorite perching spots as we drive by on that Bridge!

To this point, we have had very few sightings of L & S in that area? A few flyovers were reported on our Facebook page, but no one had reported seeing them on any of their favorite perching spots? And, I ride my bike down around that area every morning for several hours & have not seen them either?

So, needless to say, I was shocked & thrilled to get a text from Sue, one of our Ground Crew Observers, on Tuesday morning telling me that there was an eagle on the Christmas Tree!!!! Sue drives over the Highway 44 Bridge on her daily commute to & from work, so she always checks all of the perching spots for us!

I raced down there as fast as I could, ran into a traffic jam due to a car accident, and when I looked up at the Christmas Tree, BOTH Liberty & Spirit were perched up there!!!!!!!!!!! :D :D

I parked my car & hopped on my bike & raced down the 44 Pedestrian/Bike Trail as fast as I could!!!

I saw one of them fly off as I approached, but found our lovely Miss Liberty still perched up there!!!

Liberty spent a lot of time up there looking around, perhaps for her mate, Spirit?

And, she was doing a lot of preening, too! I was amazed she could preen like that because it was really windy that morning!!! I was surprised she could even hang on up there!

Yes Phil, we just have to be patient & wait & see!

I also wanted to say I'm so sorry that you lost another bird that you loved with all of your heart :brknhrt:

Since it was windy, Liberty's liftoff seemed to be in slow motion which gave me a lot of chances to get some good pics of her!

Now in this shot you can see that Liberty's left wing is missing a few feathers! I checked with Marily about that & she said Lib may have gotten into an "argument" with another bird & lost a few feathers during that altercation? They will grow back & she doesn't seem to be having any trouble flying, so it shouldn't be an issue for her!
