Hello everyone. Just popping in. Journi, thank you so much for your steady updates. Wskrs, thank you as always for visiting the nest and photographing and keeping us jazzed and hi to my fellow enthusiasts. I so appreciate all the comments and kindness in this community. I have a nagging question about the Caloosahatchee. Will there be good fishing this season? Here’s to a great ‘rest of Summer’ for all. It won’t be long now. 🦅

Surprise! I visited the nest this morning. Enjoy!

Let The Courtship Begin! H & M Perch, Touch, Defend, Fly Together 08-27-18
Harriet and M15 were perched in the west pasture trees, hopping branches and vocalizing, with an awkward mating attempt, reminding me of their initial attempts each season. When black vultures flew near the nest tree, with one landing on a branch, the adults secured their territory together flushing the vultures from the pasture before they flew south together and out of sight. All of the behaviors observed in today's video are seen in courtship as mated pairs renew and strengthen their bond to each other each nesting season. "Eagles mate 10 months out of the year, strengthening their bond and commitment to each other, but the female is only fertile for about 2+ weeks prior to and during her egg lay period. Her ova are ‘switched on’ by a hormone secreted by her pituitary gland, which is activated by daylight length. They are ‘switched off’ by the hormone prolactin, which is associated with incubation." Thank you Vicki for the early morning visit and video. It was great to see Mom and Dad together and especially their attempted mating. Many more to come in the next months I’m sure.

Pure joy to see Harriet and M-15 together!!! Thank you to Vicki and Journi for your dedication to them and to all of us that call this nest "Home"!!!!! I would have never thought in my wildest dreams that I would become so attached to a pair of Bald Eagles and their babies!!! You both make the summer when we can't see them every day at least bearable until we can. I look so forward to your updates and videos and now we are just around the corner from Season 7!!!! Woohoo!!! Happy and safe Labor Day weekend to everyone!!!

Hi everyone, it’s been too long for me to stay away to the forum. But today I saw these pictures of H&M by Liz Grindstaff on FB that truly made me smile and even laugh with her story. She was very kind to give me her permission to post here.

Thank you Nestfriend for posting the pics and Liz's cute story. It is good to see both of them in the nest tree. I really think Harriet likes to play with M15 to keep him on his talons-lol!
Excited for season 7 to begin!
Happy Labor Day to all my eagle friends.

Hang Time For Harriet & A Stick For Each This Sunday Morning 09-02-18
Harriet and M15 continue to strengthen their bond as they perch together in the west pasture trees before each brings a stick to the nest. Both place the sticks and aerate the nest preparing the nest for new eggs as official nesting season (Oct 1-May 15) draws closer. Harriet flies at a branch to break it, 'hanging' beautifully as only she can do, but the branch does not break and she perches again looking for just the right stick. Both adults leave before sunrise, flying south and out of sight.

You’re welcome Sunnybird and Suemac. I’m counting the days...29 to be exact, for the cams to be running again, now that I know they are already making nestorstions and bonding.

Tropical storm warnings in the gulf. Looks like tropical storm warnings on land just south of Fort Myers. And 2 more storms behind this one. Bears watching. I have been thinking of you H&M. And all others there invested and near the nest. Keep us updated.

Wonderful photo that Desiree Deliz captured of M15! Looks like he's possibly getting sticks for the nest...?

Re: SW Florida Eagle Cam - 2017/18
hello everyone
it has been such terrible weeks on several nests I wondered if I wouldn't stop watching eagles for next season.
I miss e9, e10, e11 so much... watching Vicki videos, pics of Desiree and continuing watching Smola nest bring smiles but anyway it's still pretty hard.
I know in October 1st I'll be watching. I hope so.
sorry for the bad mood...

Remember E9 "winging in the rain"
And of course, all the antics of E10 & E11.
Follow Nestfriend's advice. I do!
Some day E9 is going to come "screeing" over that tree line, right at me!

H & M Together In The Nest Tree~No Sticks Added This Morning 09-11-18
Harriet & M15 were perched side-by-side in the nest tree when I arrived this am. They both dropped to the nest for a few minutes before returning to separate branches, watching their territory before flying south, out of sight. As we checked Yonder Pond and behind Eagle Landing, we saw a purple pickerel rush water plant blooming, small fish skimming bugs and eggs off the top of the pond and White Ibis, Great White Egrets, Little Blue Herons, Mottled Ducks and immature & mature Tri-colored Herons feeding from the shallower drainage area.

Thank you, Vicki, for these wonderful videos, photographs and updates. The one of Harriet and M15 in the tree just gave me butterflies in anticipation of the new season coming on...it's so close! I'll be in Tampa the end of these week for few days (from California) but no time to visit the next. However, I have a trip planned mid April to come back just to see the babies and Mom and Dad. Exciting!wskrsnwings wrote: ↑Tue Sep 11, 2018 1:40 pmThank you everyone for your nice comments on my video last week. I visited the nest again this morning. Enjoy.
