More details coming soon!
BAEA24-61 - TERF17a
Banding Date: February 19, 2024
USFW Band #: 1098-03726
ID: Black/Yellow F1
Age:
Eye color:
Sex:
From the data I've seen, I think TERF17a is a juvenile male eagle who was trapped and received a tracker at the landfill in Delta, BC, on February 19, 2024.
This may be a bit confusing for a couple of days - we had assigned the designation TERF17a to an eaglet banded and tagged as a nestling in 2023, and that youngster (now known as Mud Bay Chick/TERF17x) did not survive to leave the nest area.
Our new TERF17a has started heading north, so we're setting up the pages for recording his travels - but it may take a couple of days before everything is sorted out.

Re: Tracking TERF17a
Adding a couple of pictures for the record before we reset the map to follow our new TERF17a.
The dot in the map below is where the Mud Bay Chick's nest is; after the tracker was recovered, it was brought back to Hancock Wildlife's headquarters, which is just above the border with the US.
I don't know if TERF17a was taken back to HWF to be banded and have the tracker put on and then flew briefly down into Washington and back to the landfill, or if the banding was done near the Delta landfill. I'm reasonably certain that the data points at Delta then heading north are TERF17a's.

Reserved in case there's anything I missed.
I'll try to get the map updated in the next day or two, and please feel free to post about his travels in the meantime.
