Re: Live Tracking Hints and Info
Q: Are the times on the map Pacific Time?
A: That depends.
I think that the times on the maps and also on the Animal Tracker app show the local time on the computer/phone/device used to view the map - so if you're in BC and look at the maps, they will be in Pacific time (I think).
As of 8:30 am pacific time (which is 11:30 am eastern time where I am), I'm showing TERF02's most recent check in as 19:01 (or 7:01 pm) on December 31, and TERF08's most recent time as 19:00 (or 7 pm) on December 30th. I would expect someone on the west coast to see the times as 16:01 and 16:00 - and when I checked Lynne's December 31 post for TERF08 - that's what I found! Note that the fraction of the second is the same.
I think this is the third or fourth time I've gone through this exercise, so this time I'm documenting it here so we'll have a quick place to check when we're trying to figure out exactly when an eagle was somewhere.
I will also note that our maps come from an organization called Movebank which maintains tracker data on thousands of creatures around the world, and they also have info pages for each tracker - you can find the data on our tagged eagles here - https://www.movebank.org/cms/webapp?gwt ... individual - click on the ID for an eagle to see their data. I believe the times there are either in Universal time or maybe Greenwich Mean time - both are the same at present, but I think Greenwich Mean changes to summer time while Universal time doesn't.
