Link to TERF13's Tracking Map

TERF13 is a nestling who was rescued with sibling TERF14 from thick vegetation after their nest near Boundary Bay, BC, fell down. The young eagles were taken to OWL (the Orphaned Wildlife rehab center in Delta, BC) on June 1st, 2021, where they were banded and equipped with trackers on August 4. They were both released on August 6, 2021. TERF13 has a blue band with silver letters on his left leg with the characters K over 1 and is listed as male.

BAEA21-45 - TERF13
Banding Date: Aug 4 2021
USFW Band #: 1098-03614 (right leg)
Banded: Blue marker K over 1 on its left leg
Rescued: near Boundary Bay, taken to OWL
Age: 5-6 months
Eye color: Dark Brown
Sex: Male

Here's a photo of TERF13 just before the release, with thanks to Alain-Pierre Hovasse.

Added September 3, 2021 - I have learned that Alain-Pierre ("AP") was given permission by OWL to name TERF13 and TERF14. He noted that his photo background helped him pick the names: TERF13 is Pixel and TERF14 is Jpeg. :thumlft:

I see the last date on the map is Aug 14, 10 days ago already. Does that indicate a problem?

It might - but there also seems to be a lot of wild areas where there may not be much cell phone coverage.

Here's the overview of TERF13's travels.

And here's a closer look at where he or she was on the 14th.

I actually live in Maine, and while I've been to BC several times since I got involved with watching the eagles, I've never been in this area. I do know it's not unusual for them to disappear for a few weeks or even a couple of months because they're in an area with not many cell towers - and I think they only upload data at certain times, and only if there's a cell tower within reach - which makes it easy for them to spend time off the grid when the salmon are running.

I've learned that TERF13 has a name - meet Pixel! (details in the first post)

And Pixel is in Alaska! He had been off the grid for a while, but recently checked in.

It's so amazing how these young eagles know where to go to find salmon!

Pixel has checked in! I'm in a hurry, and had come here to post about the fact that Pixel and sibling Jpeg were both checking in this week so hopefully either Lynne or I will be able to fill in the blanks for Pixel later today.

We have a map page for Pixel and sibling Jpeg so we can compare their travels (other organizations have tracked siblings, but this is the first time we've been able to do that). The link is https://hancockwildlife.org/our-project ... page/sibs/ - and they've both checked in!
