TERF11 is a nestling who fell from his nest in Vanier Park in Vancouver, BC and eventually became entangled in blackberry bushes. He was rescued on June 30, 2021, and taken to OWL (the Orphaned Wildlife rehab center in Delta, BC). He appeared to be male based on measurements taken at the time of banding; his USFW band number is 0709-06734 and he has a more readable blue band on his left leg with the characters L over 9. He was banded and received his tracker on July 16, and was released a few days later, near his nest in Vanier Park.

Re: Tracking TERF11
Three more pictures of TERF11 - David Hancock took the video, and Joane from OWL did the editing; I'll try to get the short and long versions of the video uploaded and linked soon.
Showing off his tracker
Release - I think near his nest in Vanier Park.
Away he goes!

Re: Tracking TERF11
TERF11 was released around July 16, and apparently stayed near the release area for a few days, then started north on July 21.
By July 28 he was here:
His yellow line is harder to see in map view, but this closer look shows he was inland from Bella Coola.

Re: Tracking TERF11
He explored the Haisla/Kitimat area from July 30 to August 7.
And then appeared to be heading towards Prince Rupert when he checked in on August 12.
As of August 22, we haven't heard from him for 10 days, but there appear to be a lot of areas with little unpopulated valleys where there could be salmon and where cell towers would be few and far between, so we are hoping he's having a wonderful time "off the grid" and will check back in before too long. This is a bit wider view of the area where he was.
Be safe and fly far, young Vanier Park!

TERF11/Vanier Park just checked in!
And he's in Alaska!
This shows his route since the 9th - Kitimat is down near the bottom of the screen, then he went a bit inland from Prince Rupert and the white line that goes through the S in NISGA'A is the border with Alaska.

I'm afraid it's been a while since I posted - just in case anyone was wondering - it's fine for anyone who is checking the map of "Vanier Park" to post here so we have a record.
Here's are a couple of pictures showing the travels of the Vanier Park eaglet through August 27. The first is in Satellite view, which makes it easier to see how far he's come.
This is the same picture in Map view, showing that he's quite a ways up the Alaskan Panhandle.
And this is a closer look at the area where he was on August 27th.
The link to follow his travels is in the first post.
I always worry a bit when an eagle doesn't check in for a few days - but this is an area where lots of young eagles seem to go - and there are lots of great places for them to explore that don't have cell towers, so it's not unusual for them to be "off the grid" for a few days - or a few weeks. One of the tagged eagles I've been following for over a year is Loki, who grew up on camera at our Surrey Reserve nest in 2020 (her tracking page is https://hancockwildlife.org/our-project ... ge/beta04/) - and last year she was out of contact in the same general area from August 27 to October 20 - so I know there are lots of places up there for eagles to hide!
Loki is also out of contact this summer - her last post was July 19 from that same general area - and I'm hoping that means that she arrived at her favorite "off the grid" salmon buffet earlier this year, and is having a wonderful time somewhere in the islands off the coast of Alaska.
And I'm hoping this young eagle doesn't stay out of touch quite as long as Loki!

TERF11 checked in again on September 9, and apparently has been exploring the same general area where he was at the end of August.
