Tracking BETA03

Continuing....

He flew over to where the dot is on July 12, then was in the area at the very top of the map on the 13th and 14th (you can see Kakiddi Lake in the lower right corner). (Added - the Inklin River is along the line at the top, so he probably was checking that out.)

Then a long flight between his check-in on the 15th.

From there he continued south, crossing into Alaska on the 18th, and ending up on Mitkof Island on July 21st.

BETA03 Heads North (June 25 - July 21; 57 seconds)

Here's where BETA03 was from July 21 through October 5, 2021. I'll add a video at the end of this series of posts.

He explored this inlet from July 21 through August 4

Then crossed over to Kupreanof Island and headed north slowly, and had crossed Frederick Sound to the mainland by August 11. He spent a bit of time around Farragut Bay, and then headed north on August 14.

He explored the area on the right until August 25, then headed west.

According to the map, he was in the area shown below through September 13, but the dot stayed in the same place from September 2-9, and then appeared to be in a slightly different place from September 10-13 - which may mean something happened - or that his tracker wasn't recording what he was doing. Happily he headed south on September 14. I'm using satellite view for this map because there aren't any towns and the terrain is interesting.

The tracker continued to have issues through the month of September - it showed him at the place with the 9/14 date marker from the 14th through the 18th, and then he apparently was at the dot in the middle of the Sound until the 29th.

My guess is that he was offline long enough that the tracker couldn't save and upload all the data when he got back in touch - but that's another thing we'll never know.

He was at the upper edge of Mitkof Island on October 1, and by October 5, he was heading south.

BETA03 in Alaska (July 21 – Oct 5; 2-1/4 minutes)

Continuing....

The final part of the current catching-up project is October 2021. Here's an overview of where BETA03 went, though I strongly doubt that he followed such a straight line as it looks like from the starting and ending points!

According to the tracker, BETA03 was on the little island northwest of Woronkofski Island on October 5, then at or near the southern part of Wrengell Island from October 6-16, apparently moving back and forth on that very straight line; my guess is that he probably was in that general area, and was still not storing and/or uploading data points as expected (as described in my previous post, that happened several times in September as well - and this is a fairly remote area, so there probably aren't that many cell towers.

On the 17th he started heading south.

Continuing....

I put a marker where he was on the 17th - and by the 18th, he was almost back to Delta!

The flag shows where he was reported to be on October 18 - and the data uploaded for the 18th through the 28th was all from the same location.

He moved slightly on October 29, and then reported being a bit closer to Powell River on the 30th and 31st.

It's January 1st, 2022, as I post this using posts I had reserved for filling in gaps, and as I looked ahead, there seemed to be gaps in the data until BETA03 was in a more populated area and then the tracker was behaving more normally, so I'm wondering if it isn't "remembering" where he is for days he can't upload data - which should mean we'll hear from him fairly often while he stays in the greater Surrey-Delta area. Keeping fingers crossed.

This is the end of the data inserted to catch up on BETA03's summer and fall travels.
