Will Romeo be tagged?

I definitely have been amazed to see how far Loki has traveled in the last year, Tweety - and now that more of our young eagles are leaving the nest area, it does give us a sense of what they might be doing. We haven't started receiving data yet from TERF10 and TERF11, but they are both fledglings from this year, so we can compare their travels with that of Loki and of BETA03 and TERF06, who are the same age as Loki but weren't banded and tagged until the fall, so we don't know where they went initially.

It's unlikely that Romeo will be tagged. Unlike some other organizations, HWF doesn't go into the nests to band or tag the chicks, although they will be continuing to catch eagles at places where they gather and tag them as part of the BETA (Bald Eagle Tracking Alliance) project. If Romeo had a mishap and had to spend a couple of days at OWL to be checked out, David and Myles would probably try to put a tracker on him/her - but happily that doesn't happen very often.

This is interesting. I've been checking for tracker updates every day, and there is an update today - for July 18 & 19.
July 18th - overnight on Kulu Island
July 19th - Loki on Kulu at 1100am, on Prince of Wales Island by 500pm - beautiful places

Keeping my hopes up for more tracking reports, although I don't understand what causes the erratic downloading of the data.

I have no clue why, Lynne, but none of our eagles had checked in for a week or more, even the ones who usually post daily. Hopefully whatever the glitch was, it’s fixed now.

Thanks, Judy. I didn't realize that other trackers were not checking in as well. Hopefully all will resume downloading data

I worry, Lynne - but I also remember that Loki was off the grid from August 26 to October 19 last year - and she may have headed to that special spot a bit earlier this year. Her map is one of the first things I check each morning - but I know some of the places with the best salmon are not near cell towers, so I am cautiously optimistic that she'll pop back onto the map in a month or two, and all will be well.

Hallelujah! I was really worried about her since it seems every other banded eagle has checked in. So glad to see this. Thank you Judy.

Loki Just Checked In!!!

LOKI checked in this morning November 30th! She's on Vancouver Island

Since November 12th, previous location - next locations on November 26th -30th
same general vicinity west of Inland Island Highway
