Wow - it's been 8 months since I've done a followup on TERF02's travels. As a brief recap, he's a male eagle and was banded in December 2018, so this is our third year following him. (And I didn't know his gender initially, so some of the earlier posts aren't using the correct pronouns.)
Let's start with this overview of his travels since December 2018; this is as of October 16, and it looks as if he's still in his home territory in Alaska. (The maps click quite a bit bigger)
This is the same area in Map view, making it easier to see where he's been.
I do find it interesting that he was banded at the Vancouver Landfill in Delta in December 12, 2018, and was in that general area until around February 20, 2019 - but in the fall of 2019 he came south a bit, but didn't arrive in the Vancouver/Delta area until January 15 and headed back in early March. And then in the fall of 2020 - he didn't go to the Delta area, but spent the winter not that far south of the Alaskan border, only going as far south as the area around Hawkesbury Island (there's a picture of that area in my previous post on the previous page).
Continuing from my February 23 post, he headed back to Prince Rupert on February 24, did a bit of exploring in that area, and then crossed back into Alaska on March 2nd (the white-colored day on the calendar corresponds to the pink dot showing where he was that day).

Re: Tracking TERF02
Continuing to catch up....
TERF08 continued up the coast towards his home territory, arriving at the edge of it on March 8.
He stayed there for a day or two, then headed southeast back down the coast, and spent some time looking around the Revillagigedo Island area. Here's a closer look at the area.
And I'm going to do a sort of time-lapse video by recording the map while I click from day to day on the calendar starting at March 9 (pink dot in the upper left corner near the maze of lines showing where he has spent most of his time the past three years). The video ends with him crossing the border near Gingolx on April 4 and returning to an area a bit east of that where he's been before on April 5.

Re: Tracking TERF02
Continuing....
TERF02 stayed about a week in the general area around Gingolx,
before heading straight back towards his territory on April 12.
I'm not sure how this will work, but I'm going to try to do the day-by-day calendar video for April 12 - August 11 2021, since he was pretty much staying in his territory and probably visiting favorite fishing/hunting/scavenging spots while (probably) raising a family. I'm going to do this in satellite view because I think the pink dot might be a bit easier to see against the dark background, given that there are now three seasons of tracks here. Here's a picture with the marker to help you get started - it's the same location as the screenshot above, but the perspective is different (if that makes sense).
I tried looking at another map that includes a scale, and it looks as if the distance from the M of Mitkof Island (just to the right of the darkest area) across to the edge of the island (or what I think is the edge of the island - where there appears to be a narrow bit of water separating it from the next island, up above the P in Port Protection) - that distance seems to be about 25 miles or 40 kilometers.
TERF02 April 12 - August 11 2021 (4 minutes, 9 seconds)

Re: Tracking TERF02
Continuing....
In addition to viewing the activity of our tagged eagles on our website (link for TERF02 is in the first post), you can also follow them with the Animal Tracker app on Apple or Android devices, and those work slightly differently in that they only show the last 12 months of activity - which I thought might be useful here where there are so many layers. So here, from my phone, is where TERF02 has been in the last 12 months.
And this focuses on his activity during the nesting season - I've zoomed in on that, and stopped the activity at August 12, as he was heading a bit north, perhaps for a bit of rest and relaxation.
These both click quite a bit larger, and I'm finding it easier to see that TERF02 was spending a lot of time in the central area, with a lot of trips to places where there might have been more food. There is also a ruler at the top of the image to give an idea of how far he was flying.

This is an overview of where TERF02 was from August 12 through September 24. I'm doing it a bit differently with an arrow showing where he was on August 12 and the pink dot at the top showing him on September 24 before heading back to his regular territory. There's only one over and back trip that's not relevant (he went out to the point on the left on May 29) - so I'm just saying to ignore that.
Here's a closer look at the area where he was for those 6 weeks, in satellite view to give an idea of the terrain.
It does look like one of those areas that may not have many cell towers.
After his vacation up above Frederick Sound, it looks as if he went back to his territory and puttered around a bit. I'm not going to record the details at this point - but we'd love to have more people checking out TERF02's map - and the maps for our other tagged eagles. And it would be interesting to learn more about Kupreanof Island, which appears to be his home.
