BACA02 checked last night! The green dot shows where he is now, and it looks as if he may be on his way to Delta!
Here's a closer look, in map view as it's easier to read the place names. As you may remember, he was up near Yakutat at the northern part of the Alaskan panhandle when he uploaded data in late November - and he's now partway down the panhandle.
Uploads may be a bit scarce until he gets back into BC, since his tracker isn't picked up by most Alaskan cell towers (though some do use the BC frequencies) - but if he's heading south, he may be in a hurry.

BACA02 has not checked in since January. He received his tracking device in February 2018, so it was almost 3 years old when we stopped receiving data. His tracker had only been uploading data intermittently for a while before that, so it's my guess that the tracker has finally failed. BACA02 seemed to be doing great during the time we were able to track him, so odds are good that he is still doing fine.
Wishing you a long and healthy life, BACA02!

Here are some additional pictures of BACA02 from when he was banded on February 11, 2018. I don't know who is helping Myles here - and do appreciate this picture giving a sense of how big a wing is! These all click much bigger.

An interesting update (and somewhat off topic) on the tracker that was worn by the eagle we knew as BACA02.
Looking back, our bald eagle BACA02 last checked in on January 5, 2021, when he appeared to be heading towards Delta after spending some time up north. His tracker hadn't been reporting in that often, and since he'd been tracked for almost 3 years, we assumed that the battery (or whatever the solar panel charges) had worn out (though we knew it was possible that something had happened to him - but there was no indication of that in the last updates).
Then last month, three years after we last heard from him, the tracker checked in from Poland - the one in Europe!
I checked with Myles and Mike Seear, who are much more involved in the tracking program than I am, and learned that the trackers were made in Poland - and Myles did not mail it back to them. They suspect someone found the tracker and mailed it to the manufacturer, and it has now been refurbished and placed on a bird in Poland.

Re: BACA02 (tracked 2/11/18-1/5/21)
Here are a couple of maps showing the new bird's travels in Poland.
Here's an overview:
The first data points for this bird (which may have a designation of FOKS05) are from February 2, 2024, and the bird stayed in this general area (where the dot is on the first map in this post) through the end of February.
Beginning March 1st, he or she was in this area.
Just looking at the locations, I'm wondering if this is a trained bird - like a falcon used for hunting or discouraging pests like mice or rats.
And I'm realizing that I have a lot of projects I should be focused on - like getting the web pages set up for our two new tagged eagles, TERF15b and TERF17a.
At some point I should probably ask David Hathaway to add an end date to the map for BACA02, since this is about his travels, and he is no longer wearing the tracker - but I may wait a little while before I do that.
