I spoke to David Hancock this evening, and he said that Croydon Sr and his mate successfully fledged two chicks again this year! :D

He also said that the property owner would like to remove the nest so the area around it could be developed, but that won't happen in the coming year, so the pair should be fine for another year. I think David is hoping to install a nest elsewhere in the territory next summer, so the eagles will have an option when they return - but that's all in the future, and everything should be good for the coming season.

BACA03/Croyden Sr's most recent check-in was on June 23, 2023. He was in his home territory at 1 pm (the tag says 4 pm because my computer is in the eastern time zone), and it looks as if he was heading over to his foraging area near the landfill at 5 pm (8 pm eastern).

The map below shows the last two weeks of recorded travel, June 10 - 23, from the Animal Tracker app on my cell phone. It looks like very normal behavior for an eagle with chicks that no longer need full time protection but still want lots of food.

Croyden Sr was the third eagle that HWF tagged, back on December 4, 2018, so he'd had his tracker for a bit over 4-1/2 years - which is longer than most trackers last.

I asked David Hancock if he had an update, and he reported that there were two healthy eaglets in the nest in July, and they likely fledged successfully though he didn't actually see them flying.

The tree where they nested was taken down in September as part of a planned project, and David's team installed a replacement nest, but they haven't been seen using it yet. David said it is a heavily forested area, so I suspect there are other trees nearby that they may be using. David is continuing to check on them, and will let us know if he finds their new home and confirms that BACA03 is still the resident male - but it could take a while as there are lots of trees.

in progress
