BACA01 (tracked 2/9/18-3/28/19)
Thank you Sharon for setting this topic up for me. I had started following BACA01 a while back but got caught up in other things and just now getting back. I will start my posting from the middle of March, which is just after the description that is entered for BACA01 (he was tagged February 9, 2018, but his page on our website wasn't set up until later).
On March 12th, 2018 - BACA01 spent his night on the slopes in Grouse Mountain. Beautiful scenary from the top of the mountain.

Re: Tracking BACA01
Mar 23rd, 2018 - BACA01 was heading north, with a stop in Prince Rupert. I found this spot interesting because when I went to google maps a couple of the shots had eagles in them.
I was just assuming these were eagles flying around the area. Not sure if they really were though
But this one really caught my eye, just inside the gate, appears to be sitting on top of a pile of something. I couldn't get in any closer.
Re: Tracking BACA01
Mar 28th, 2018 - BACA01, continuing north, and decided that this area in Alaska would be a nice place to stop for a while. In fact he stayed in this area of islands until the beginning of July.
First stop was near the Alaskan Sourdough Lodge. Maybe looking for something good to eat.
Re: Tracking BACA01
These are the islands where BACA01 spent the next several months.
Re: Tracking BACA01
Beautiful Zarembo Island - bright blue waters
And just look at that beach area
And it appears there are some walking trails here
Re: Tracking BACA01
BACA01 must really like the higher elevations and the snow capped mountains, as he stopped on Woronkofski Island
Wrangell Island was another place that BACA01 enjoyed. He seemed to like the Ferry area and down by the docks
As well as the area around the small airport, and especially by Petroglyph Beach. I didn't know what that was so had to look it up. Petroglyphs are images created by removing part of a rock surface by carving, picking, and incising, as a form of art. I'm sure I learned this way back when......but some things just escape your memory. Glad I could learn something new today.
Re: Tracking BACA01
BACA01 then went to Whale Pass, still in these same group of islands. Guess he found what he was looking for when he came across Salmon Bay Lake.
Re: Tracking BACA01
July 4th, 2018 - BACA01 started making his way further north and made some stops in Juneau, Alaska. He spent about a month up in this area, making stops at the DIPAC Macaulay Salmon Hatchery both on his way north as well as when he started coming back south.
BACA01 flew further north to the St Terese area, which is still part of Juneau.

Re: Tracking BACA01
In the St Terese area BACA01 spent some time at no other than, Eagle Beach Recreation Area. Guess this is where they all meet up and have some fun.
And another favorite spot just nearby to Eagle Beach was the Eagle River Scout Camp. Who wouldn't want to spend time here with those beautiful mountains in the distance, and being that it is right on the water, so plenty of fish.
Re: Tracking BACA01
On Aug 11th, 2018 BACA01 - starting making the trip south, and on 8/14 he stopped in an area along the Mole River on Admiralty Island. This island appears to be dense with trees and have some mountains. The river runs between some of these mountains. Looks like a nice quiet place to visit. BACA01 stayed along the Mole River until 8/29 when he began to go further south.
Re: Tracking BACA01
Sept 1st, 2018 - BACA01 spent the next 11 days at South Arm Hood Bay, which is on the south end of Admiralty Island.
Re: Tracking BACA01
Sept 12th, 2018 - BACA01 flew down to the very southern tip of Admiralty Island onto a smaller island named Carroll Island. His last recording was on 9/14 at 11:00 am. Hoping to see that BACA01's tracker is back online so we can continue to follow his journey.
Re: Tracking BACA01
BACA01's tracker has not been recorded since 9/14/2018. Wonder what that means. Could the tracker just be damaged? Just hoping that he is okay and it's just the tracker that is out of order.
Re: Tracking BACA01
All four eagles who are spending the fall on the coast have been off-line quite a bit - I'm hoping that just means that there are salmon (or some other interesting prey) a bit further inland, where cell phone coverage is not that great, so they aren't usually in reach of cell towers for uploading their data. I find it very promising that BACA01 checked in, and am cautiously optimistic that we may hear from him occasionally over the next month or so, before he (perhaps) heads further south where they may be more towers.

Thanks Judy, that makes sense. I hope to see him make his way back south soon!JudyB wrote: ↑Tue Oct 02, 2018 5:15 pmAll four eagles who are spending the fall on the coast have been off-line quite a bit - I'm hoping that just means that there are salmon (or some other interesting prey) a bit further inland, where cell phone coverage is not that great, so they aren't usually in reach of cell towers for uploading their data.
