Continuing....

August 24 - back to Malibu (maybe there's a good sushi bar there?)

And here's a closer look at Malibu in Satellite view - and it looks to me as if BACA03 would have had to catch his own sushi!

August 25 - back towards Upper Squamish
20200828_005.jpg

That seems to be an area where there's not a lot of cell towers, so it's not surprising that it's now August 28 and we haven't seen any additional data uploaded.

Have a good vacation, BACA03 - and may you catch lots of fish!

BACA03 is now back in his home territory!

He spent August 26-29 above Upper Squamish, sort of across from Cloudburst Mountain.

Then he moved down to the area above Iron Bay for a couple of days.

He was there until some time on the first, and was back in his home territory on September 2nd, where he is when he checked in today.

Note that Mt. Garibaldi appears in all three maps - they are different scales, but that may help you moved from one to another - or go to his map - https://hancockwildlife.org/our-project ... ge/baca03/ - and click on the calendar icon at the top center to open the calendar, and click from day to day to follow his travels. :)

BACA03 remained in his territory through September 5th then headed north on the 6th:

He reached the area above Squamish on the 7th, and is there again for today's upload:

A closer look.

BACA03 is back home in Surrey!

When we last checked in on him, he was heading North from Squamish on September 8, and it looks as if he spent much of the time quite a ways up the river - here are pictures from September 13 and September 23. The second one has terrain turned on so you can see he was in a fairly deep valley - which is probably why he didn't check in until a day or two ago.

When he checked in on the 24th, he was a little north of Squamish - and judging from the red lines, a place he'd visited before.

Continuing....

He was in that area on the 25th, and a bit south of Squamish on the 26th (you can follow his path like I'm doing at https://hancockwildlife.org/our-project ... ge/baca03/ - just click the little calendar icon at the top of the page, and click a day to see where he was then).

By the 27th, he was in the Surrey area:

And while it's not easy to see his little red dot on top of all the lines tracking his travels over the last couple of years - he is definitely back in his home territory!

BACA03 is reporting in regularly and has been active in his territory since the end of September.

Here's a current map, but not easy to sort out with three years of data here.

BACA03 just checked in! He had been reporting regularly from his territory in Surrey until August 9 - and he's been "off the grid" since then. I just noticed that he's back in his territory!

20210921_003.jpg

Here's where he was August 10, somewhere north of Squamish:

Happy to see him back in Surrey - though it's not easy to tell where he is with almost three years of data on the map!

I wonder if this means that our resident adults at Surrey Reserve, Delta 2 and White Rock are also making their way back. :)

Wonder if this means we might hear from Loki too? It's been a long time since she checked in also.

I've been checking on Loki almost every day - sometimes a couple of times a day. But I am keeping in mind that it was October 20 last year before she came back from wherever she'd be spending the fall - and a number of our younger eagles are still somewhere far from cell towers - so I'm hoping most if not all are fine. Loki is a strong eagle, and into her second year - so her odds are higher than that of this year's fledglings, though I also hope they are also doing well.

And so far, looking at our adult pairs with cams, only the Harrison Mills pair is back on their nest - and they have a nest near a place where eagles gather in the fall, so defending it may be a higher priority than for the eagles near Surrey/Delta/White Rock - or the youngsters who have several years to wander before getting the urge to find a place to settle down.

Thanks for checking in - please do post if you see any of the ones on vacation checking in! :)

Thanks Judy for your response. :luck: they all check in within the next month so we can all breathe a sigh of relief.

Thanks for stopping by, CC!

I'm not sure how easy this is to follow, but with a bit of luck it will show BACA03's travels over the last month.

:vid: BACA03's Summer Vacation (90 seconds)

From the YouTube post:
We made this by going to his tracking map https://hancockwildlife.org/our-project ... ge/baca03/, switching to Map view, and clicking the calendar icon at the top center, then clicking the days on the map one after the other so the red dot showing his location moves. It's not easy to see because he has visited that area north of Squamish in previous years so there's quite a lot of earlier tracks as well. This year he left on August 9 and returned to Surrey on September 21.
