Transition to New Website

Post by JudyB » Wed Mar 07, 2018 12:53 pm

If all goes according to plan, on Thursday evening, March 8, we will be switching from the website we've had for the last 12 years to a new website with a lot of new features (and some updated old features - like new and improved pages for our live cams).

The new website should be in place at hancockwildlife.org fairly quickly once the transition starts, but it may take a few hours before the old website appears at its new home, archive.hancockwildlife.org.

The old forum will also be offline during that time - it's part of the website so they will move together - but once it returns, you should be able to reach it at the hancockwildlife.org/forum address we've always used (or at its new address, archive.hancockwildlife.org/forum).

This forum will not be affected by the move - it's not part of either website.

Please check this thread for updates - we'll let you know as soon as we learn more.

Thanks for giving us a heads up JudyB. Keeping my :luck: that all goes well.

Thank you JudyB and the rest of the team for all your time and effort to get the new forum up and running. I do find it a lot easier than the one we have been using for 12 years. Wow, I can't believe it has been that long.

Judy

I was just posting some copyright info to the AEF DC thread and wanted to link to the post about copyright. I noticed that the topics/threads for "rules and etiquette" have not been moved to the new site yet. We may want to move over or create a rules and etiquette thread/topic on the new site with copyright info and rules of the web page for new members.

If you read "the rules" on the other forum - you'll notice that we said it was a work in progress and linked to the previous forum (which I think we used from 2006-2010) - but we probably should bring at least some of that here, and will try to do that sooner rather than later. Thanks, Pat!

Are the cameras moving to this site, as well? I know it's a work in progress, but currently the camera links are on the old site ... and I don't see them here. I just want to clarify where I'll be seeing them after :luck: today.

Good question, Sue - thanks!

The new website (which will be www.hancockwildlife.org after the change) will have a link to the new Live Cams pages at the top (here's a sneak preview, though there are a few last minute changes - as always):
20180308_003.jpg
And after a couple of hours, you should be able to access the current live cam page at archive.hancockwildlife.org/index.php?topic=cam-sites and go to the various cam pages from there.

There won't be any change to the URLs used by zoomers.

I do have emergency links for viewing the cams on my personal website, and will share those if we run into trouble during the transition. But I'm not expecting that to happen.

Update:

The transition might not happen this evening. There are still some loose ends, and I haven't heard a time for the move. So - it will happen when it happens, and I'll post more as soon as I know more. :)

I can't connect to the old forum or to the soon-to-be-old HWF website - I don't know if that means that the move is underway, or if there's an issue with the server - have sent an email to David Hathaway to ask.

Try these for now -

Delta - http://hwf.simian-studios.ca/live-cams/delta-2-both/

WR - http://hwf.simian-studios.ca/live-cams/delta-2-both/

HM - http://hwf.simian-studios.ca/live-cams/ ... ills-both/

Sounds as if this isn't intentional - I'll post more when I know more.

Thanks Judy, I had those. I guess the main cam web sites are offline.
