Rip 2021

Brought to me by Pascale. :ty:

+ May 01 around 19h40 - Fox River Marina, Ill : Bald Eaglets FRM#1, FRM#2, FRM#3 around one week old.

Nature is just nature. Nothing could have been done to avoid this tragedy. (or may be to have decreased earlier the effects of the climate change.)

Fox River eaglets die after nest falls due to high winds

+ Mai 12 - Eagle at Matsalu National Park, Estonia : White Tailed Eaglet EE#2 12 days old.

Merikotkas::Haliaeëtus albicilla nest cam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOo4wwavdLc

Nobody knows what is going on in this nest, poisoning, flu, ... Yesterday the youngest eagle had problems eating, loss of balance. This very early morning it seemed quite lively but little by little his condition deteriorated dramatically. It died very close to his elder brother and under the warmth of the sun. What is more serious is that now its eldest seems to have the same symptoms now...

This early morning it was watching around

the closer one, exactly at the place it died a little bit later

Merikotkas::Haliaeëtus albicilla nest cam https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOo4wwavdLc

As i announced yesterday, even after a small meal yesterday evening, not enought strong to eat well, little EE1 stayed very lethargic until 10h31 am this morning. we could see Its low breathing movements and sometimes some tremors in its body. At a moment Dad put some fluff on its body but we still can see until the moment when the wind covered its body with more fluff. At 11h02 Dad flew away.... As you can see on the pics, the EE2's body (at the top of the nest) was waiting its sibling before leaving. EE1 surrendered his soul to his creator at 12h58/11/58 gmt when it stopped breathing, without a whisper. Rest in peace courageous and so
strong small being. EE1 and EE2 are now on their way to the heavens. They are together for eternity now so never alone. Two magnific Angels flew away.

EE1's last feeding yesterday evening, to tired/ill to eat very much

+ Mai 14 & 18 - Decorah North, Iowa : Hawklets DnH1, DnH2 then DnH3.

It is only as works Nature.
Raptors can also become preys. It is what happened at Decorah North. Two time DNF (Decorah North Mom) brought hawkets in the nest as DN13 and DN14 meals... 05-14 DNh1 and Dnh2, the luckiest was DnH1 as it arrived already dead and didn't suffer too long. It was not the case for #2 , alive, which could hope a little moment but its fate was already cast as DNF cam back in the nest...
05-18 DNF again brought an alive one, DnH3. This time she let her eaglets train themselve with a live prey. It was very fierce and strong but succumbed after long agony and great suffering... :( :cry1: :brknhrt:

That was extremely sad Philjo...yes it is nature and nature is not kind. You must feel badly for the hawk mom.

+ May 22 - Dyfi Osprey Nest, Wales UK : Osplet Dyf#2 .

From https://www.facebook.com/dyfiospreyproject/
" 05-22-2021, Sad News. Chick 2 has sadly died in the nest at 14:30 due to accidental suffocation at 8-hours old.
We anticipate that Telyn will remove the body from the nest at some point over the next couple of days.
05-23-2021, At 08:45 this morning, Mom Telyn removed the body of Chick 2 from the nest. Many ospreys seem to know, instinctively, to do this. Rest in peace, little fella. "

:ty: Ferenz for the pic of Chick 1 and the poor chick 2 (farther one). 05-29 #1 and #3 are doing fine :luck:

from https://www.facebook.com/BywydGwylltGlaslynWildlife/
"05-23-2021, We have some sad news. Unfortunately, the eldest chick died in the nest late this afternoon. The other two chicks still appear to be quite strong and we can only hope that they will make it through this very difficult period. Mrs G continues to incubate them during the wet and windy weather conditions.
05-28-2021, We have some very sad news. Unfortunately, Cyw 2 died in the nest 23:32 last night. It hadn't been looking well yesterday and did not feed all day. We can only hope Cyw 3 makes it through this difficult period.
05-28-2021, We are incredibly sad to share the news that Chick 3 died in the nest at 18:30 this evening. It has been a devastating week and a sad and challenging breeding season for Mrs G and Aran. RIP Glaslyn chicks of 2021."

+ June 04 - Urdaibai Águila pescadora Osprey nest, Basque Country, Spain : Osplet Zuri.

In fact, little Zuri, it was not Lord's plan to let you fly in our world. Today you fly high and without hunger in this world awaited by all, among so many little friends, your predecessors and where one day we will all meet again.
At 19h you were still mobile but already so weak little Zuri. At 22h you already flew away.
One more time this season, a wondeful little Angel had flown... :( :cry1: :brknhrt: :cryhanky:

Rip 2021

+ June 24 - Cornell Red-tailed Hawks Live cam, Ithaca. NY : Red-tailed Hawklet K2.

K2 middle hawklet of 3 siblings was 52 days old.
2021-06-26_08h49_41.jpg
K2 is the right one

June 17 Update: During the week of June 14th, our team of moderators and camera operators began to notice that the middle-hatched nestling named K2 appeared to be acting lethargic. Over the next couple days it became apparent that there was some type of natural injury causing swelling on K2’s right cheek and bill, and at that time we reached out to Cornell’s Janet L. Swanson Wildlife Health Center for their thoughts on the apparent injury and to make them aware that we were monitoring the nestling’s health.

June 22 Update: Over the past week, it has been difficult watching K2 slowly decline in activity due to an unknown injury to its eye and bill as its siblings prepared for fledging. In consultation with wildlife veterinarians and rehabilitators at Cornell University, it became clear that K2’s chances of survival without intervention was unlikely. So, on the morning of June 22, Cornell Lab staff made the decision to retrieve K2 from its nest so it could receive treatment for its injuries.
At 11h16 it was done https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RkStRwcKuXo&t=14s  :luck:

:cry1: June 25 Update: We have sad news to share about K2, the injured nestling from the Cornell Hawks nest that was transported to the Janet L. Swanson Wildlife Hospital on June 22. There, K2 received emergency care and advanced diagnostics to assess the nature and extent of injuries and determine treatment. Unfortunately, X-rays and other testing revealed severe and irrecoverable injuries that would have prevented K2’s survival in the wild or quality of life in captivity. Because of this, and the chronic pain associated with this condition, the wildlife veterinarians made the difficult but compassionate decision to euthanize K2. :cry1: :cryhanky:
We are grateful to the team at the Wildlife Hospital for providing K2 with supportive care and treatment. Advanced diagnostic testing revealed extensive injuries that were not outwardly visible, including a large abscess under K2’s right eye above the bill and a deep infection in the facial bones leading to irreversible structural damage, impairing K2’s ability to see, breathe, and eat. After full assessment and the extent of damage and prognosis for continued suffering became clear, K2 was euthanized out of compassion on June 24. https://www.allaboutbirds.org/cams/an-u ... condition/

Now you are free little K2, no more suffering, a big crop and you are flying higher than K1 and K3 your Siblings. God bless you little one. I'm sure now you do not regret to be where you are. Warm, love and peace, it is what you won. Take care and don't forget we will have always a part of you in our heart like your parents and siblings will have forever. :luck: :rh:

the day K2 was brought to the hospital will all our hopes.

Rip 2021

+ June 25 - Sääksilive, Satakunta #1, Finland : Ospreys Mom Alma & her youngest osplet S#3.

https://www.saaksilive.fi/2021/06/25/al ... a-vastaan/ and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mt-cTY05Nj8
Sad news from Alma & Ossi's nest. The nesting came to an abrupt end today (June 25th) when (10h44) Alma decided to chase away a raven that landed in the tree right next to the nest. The raven and Alma flew towards the woods and Alma somehow injured herself during the chase and both birds ended up on the ground where the battle continued. Alma wasn't able to get off the ground anymore and the raven was able to return to the nest and attack 2 of the 3 chicks. The youngest osplets did not survive (10h55) and joined Alma his mother who on the ground and unable to fly away was seen being carried away by a fox (11h25). At this moment we can hear the terrible cries coming from Dad who couldn't do anything to save Alma :cry1: .The two older chicks survived as Ossi returned to the nest area with fresh fish in his talons, making sure the raven wasn't able to get back to the nest again. Unfortunately, it would have been practically impossible for a single Osprey parent to successfully raise chicks that still need a parent to feed them and protect them from the heat and predators. Therefore the only chance for the remaining two chicks to survive to fledge was to take them to another nest (with no camera). The live streams from Nest 1 are off at least for the time being. :cry1:

The Ravens is arriving after Alma was injured and on the ground. It has the blood and some feathers of Alma on its beak.

Just as Dad came back with a fish and chased the crow, the left little one is just watching the warm and soft light that surrounds him. Half an hour after mom Alma, his mother, will follow him. RIP.
