E14 ~ you are the light in all of our lives. Never did I imagine we would lose you so soon and our hearts are broken. Your candle burned brightly for 26 days on earth and it lit up the skies & filled all our hearts with such love & joy. 💕

Our hearts rejoiced when you came into the world. Seeing you grow each & every day, our hearts were bursting with pride on each milestone you hit. From leaving the nest cup, to taking your first steps, from bonking Dad to hugging your egg sibling, from moving sticks, trying to self feed to seeing Mom, Dad and the nest tree reflected in your eyes - we were there with you every step of the way.

E14 ~ your light has now gone out from this world but it is forever shining brightly in the heavens. You are gone from us but not forgotten. You will live on forever in all our hearts. I will see you again little one, when it is my time to fly up to the heavens. But until then, I will hold your memory close to my heart remembering how blessed I am to have had you in my life. I will love you forever sweet baby. 💖

E14 ~ December 19 2019- January 15 2020 💔💔

"The Aerie" - E14's Final Journey - as told by E14

You'd be surprised, cause there wasn't a bridge,
Instead, a steep riser that rose to a ridge;
The climb was exhausting, my dry sweat a coat,
Fear was the unknown, perched in my throat.
I reached a sharp dropoff, dread second to none,
When a male voice boomed, "Fly down, little one."

"Dad!" I yelled, and peered down below,
My heart hammered with loud audio.
A bald eagle beckoned, I flew down at once!
As if I'd been flying for months and months.
Then I looked up! This wasn't my dad!
Blind-sided I was, I knew I'd been had.
Yes, this man had good looks by the gallon
But his tail was ragged, a claw sans a talon.

My eyes took in acres of branches entwined,
Surrounding above were the rails I'd climbed.
I see it would take me hours to cross
This aerie with pine cones, fish heads and moss.
So many eaglets which walked on their wings!
They rolled little pinecones, their baby playthings.

"I want you to meet E's 3 and 5,
And then meet the others who didn't survive."
He took frail shoulders and turned me to see
The eaglets intrigued, now looking at me.
He corralled all his kids, so many others!
"E14, come meet your sisters and brothers."

Bewildered I stood, wingtips on hips,
I could not believe what would come from my lips:
"No disrespect sir, but bro didn't hatch,
You see, I was half of a one-two batch.
It's true, and I have no siblings to speak,
At night my mom kissed, sadly, only one beak."

He dropped to my level, his knees all buckled,
"My name is Ozzie," he quietly chuckled.
His smile was warm, his manner benign,
Then he regaled a tale which tingled my spine...
He ended, "....you have the blood, the blood of my girl,
The blood of Harriet, my heart, my pearl."

Just then I realized, he smelled of my home,
He smelled of the home in which I had grown.
I begged, "Can I stay... stay here with you?"
To which he replied without further ado,
"Oh, I've had my orders, which I still obey,
Your mom said, 'Ozzie, you'll let her stay.'"

I asked, "Sir, where will I sleep?"
"With your sibling," he said, winking, "my little Bo-Peep."
Then E5 rolled over someone I knew!
My bro! -still an oval, who couldn't break through.
My wings embraced him, and with comfort, I wept,
Exhaustion set in, and finally I slept.

Kathy's poem story is uplifting, wonderful and truth. Thank you for posting it and the love it shows.
What I like best is that I can "see" it exactly as it is happening, a gift Kathy has.

My friends, it is hard to convey in words all that E14 meant to us. I was thinking of words that represented E14 in my mind, and this is what I came up with. My nickname for her was "Feisty 14er", so here is my "thoughts poem". :rh: :brknhrt: :rh:

F funny
fierce
feed me, food coma

E energetic

E14, aka Spunky, Sassy Pants, Feisty 14er, and JOY

I independent

YOU will always be in our hearts, Sweet 14

I wrote this the other day. I just call it

:rh: (Eagles) :rh:

We are eagles proud and strong, in our resolve we find our strength to carry on.
We choose to triumph over tragity when life's lessons come our way, Our sights are always set in the blessings of each new day.
We soar high above mountains over the land and sea.
We joyfully dance in the rain, our spirit is forever free.

I Love it, Merci Eaglefaih9! :huggie:

From https://www.facebook.com/CROWClinic/

E14 NECROPSY RESULTS: The liver tissue of E14 from the Southwest Florida Eagle Cam nest, a male eaglet, was found to contain markedly increased levels of brodifacoum, a type of anticoagulant rodenticide or rat poison.
Anticoagulant rodenticides, or rat poisons, prevent the blood from clotting normally and cause an animal that has ingested a toxic amount to bleed to death. Rodents that ingest the poison often become disoriented or lethargic as they are dying and become easy prey for eagles, hawks, owls and other predators, passing the poison through the food chain. Sadly, it is not uncommon for apparently healthy raptors to test positive for low levels of rodenticides, which have not yet reached the point of causing toxicity and illness. The adults in the nest likely have chronic exposure to rodenticides from the same food sources, but are not currently suffering any ill effects due to their larger body size compared to the affected baby.
For more information on anticoagulant rodenticides, please check out the following resources:
https://www.audubon.org/magazine/januar ... fO7J6dLHRw
https://www.allaboutbirds.org/news/rapt ... IBadBAe5ps
https://www.raptorsarethesolution.org/f ... ymSkI_QCFY
2020-02-20_10h35_44.jpg

So now, what can we say, E14's death was caused by anticoagulant, ok, and so a mademan problem…
and what did the human do to help him in that particular case ? Nothing. just discuss, speak, talk, rant and when a decision could arise, night is approaching so we'll see tomorrow ...
meanwhile, E14 lost his life one drop of blood by one drop of blood and who did not hear him screaming around 1:30 this morning there is no doubt how much he could have suffered from losing his short life and from being so abandoned.
We will never know if somebody should have been able to help and save him, we only know he died the 01-15 of 2020.
Do you know this term "no assistance to anyone in danger." it's exactky what we, human did with this poor little one. :cry1: :cryhanky:
Even if we know the cause of death, we must not get rid of what we could have done and what we did not do.
It is why I can no longer bear to read now those who exonerate themselves from this fact by asking us to go ahead, yo let E14 go away, and such Pontius Pilate announces that the eaglet died of raticide and so Lavabit manus meas et reddidit sub Pontio Pilato, I wash my hands of it .
Well, we are all responsible and did Nothing for E14, that is the only Truth.
