Rip 2020

+ Jul 01 (06h10 nest time)- Latvian Golden Eagle nest, Latvia : Eaglet Klints, Spilve and Virsis child.

Here is what Pascale wrote about little Klints viewtopic.php?p=353585#p353585

There is this Golden Eagle nest in Latvia.
Virsis, an experienced dad, Spilve, a very first time mom, and Klints, the little chick.
Spilve was doing extraordinarily well for a first time mom. She was taking care of the nest and the baby. Virsis was the provider. Everything was going pretty well, Klints growing up strong and adorable until Virsis was missing  :brknhrt: :brknhrt:
Spilve tried to hunt but could only bring small preys, and not every day...
« Scientists » and « experts » kept saying that it wasn’t too bad and maybe Virsis will come back. No intervention, this nest is a scientific one.
Every watcher could hear Klints crying for hunger, and his cries finally stopped this morning.
Klints is 52 days forever.
Your suffering ended little one :cry1:
Fly high little baby, I’m sure dad was there to help you.
Poor poor mom... she adored you :cry1:

And here what Lady Hawk wrote about the tragedy. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DxVI_pMmw0

Virsis, a Golden Eagle male, and Spilve, a newly-mature Golden Eagle female, breed in their artificial nest, which was installed in 2010. Most recently the eagles successfully breed here in 2016. The nest is located in a bog on an island managed by the Latvian State Forests. Last year a female (Spilve) appeared regularly but she was too young to breed. For 2020, Spilve laid two eggs - on March 28th and April 1st. Egg #1 is non viable & egg #2 hatched on May 10, 2020. Klints passed away on July 1st 2020 after Dad Virsis went missing and food was scarce.

It is with great sadness that I have to inform everyone our sweet little Klints has passed away early this morning. His last movement was at 06:10 AM Latvia time. My heart is broken in two over the loss of this little eaglet. My deepest condolences to all the viewers who watched this nest and fell in love with him & our our eagle parents Spilve and Virsis. May Klints soar forever on angel wings. RIP little one. We will never forget you. 🌹💔💔😰
Klints was 52 days old.

Rip 2020

+ July 3 - Minnesota DNR Nest, Minn : Eaglet E1.

E1: March 15 - July 3. 3 months and 18 do :( :cry1: :brknhrt:

After E3 the 13th of April, today E1 finally left this side of the mirror and let E2 alone in the area.

yesterday 07-04-2020, Minnesota Nongame Wildlife Program announced:

Sad News July 4, 2020

Yesterday was a sad day. We regret to inform you that E1 passed away yesterday. Unfortunately, she flew into a power line and was found dead. One of our photographers who monitors the nest reported a chick was dead and hanging from a near by power structure. He reported it to Nongame staff and we contacted Xcel Energy, who immediately responded and had a crew on site to retrieve the chick, which was identified as E1.

No one witnessed the event. Her wing caught a loop and she was found hanging. Once Xcel retrieved the remains, Nongame took possession of E1. It was determined that she was not electrocuted. It appears she hit the line and likely died on impact It happened some time between 8:30 am and 6 pm yesterday, July 3. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for eagles to perish by hitting power lines, but it is always sad to witness and report. ....

... Of course, we hope that E2 will continue to thrive and survive until adulthood. There is no way to protect birds from all of the environmental hazards, but escaping them will result in a stronger individual. E2 has, and will continue to visit the nest and we will keep the camera on until at least the end of August. ....

RIP E1

MIA 2020

MIA Jun 18 - Kenai Eagle nest, Alaska : Bald Eagle Redoubt, Aurora's mate, Denali & +Spurr's Dad.

Four days before the loss of Spurr, you, the supplier, were reported missing. I hope you were by Spurr's side when he needed your support during his downfall and were able to grab his little soul between your wings and take him with you to heaven.

Androcat posted (for Spurr):
Today, we said goodbye to our precious little Spurr :brknhrt: . Tonight, Aurora and Denali are together on the nest, as I pray for Redoubt’s safe return. I am sharing one of my favorite pictures, a beautiful moment from when our family was four, and we observed Redoubt passing pieces of food to Aurora to feed Denali and Spurr.

MIA 2020

MIA July 01 - Delta2 Eagle nest, Bc : Eaglet Sunny, Ma Delta2 & Trooper's child and Shadow's older sibling. (For Sunny, that's just my personal opinion)

After an accidental fledge at 19h11 Sunny (81 do) was seen at the end of the day but never after

From https://hancockwildlife.org/delta-2-cams/
Older eaglet Sunny had an accidental fledge the evening of July 1 – he was on a branch and tried to hop back to the nest, slipped, and ended up on the ground. Experienced local observers found him in one of the fields near the nest that evening but were unable to capture him – he can fly, though wasn’t getting much height. As of July 4, he hasn’t returned to the nest and there haven’t been any sightings, though rescuers and the zoomer team have been looking. Sunny was 81 days old when it happened, so close to the time he (or she) would have fledged normally, and it does take time for eaglets to develop the strength needed to fly up to a nest – so we are all hoping he’ll return. Update – as of July 9, we have not seen Sunny.

:dunno: .
2 pics taken just before the accidental fledge. the first one by Sandy_W 2 h00 before and the second one by RoseA. Thanks to both.

MIA 2020

MIA May 07 - NEFL Eagle nest, Fla : Eaglet Jules, Gabrielle & Samson's child and Romy's older sibling. (For Jules, that's just my personal opinion)

After her fledge at 07h50 Jules (78 do) was seen only once not a long time after and then she was never seen or heard and never came around her nest.

from https://www.nefleaglecam.org/
gretchen_AEF (Admin): THURSDAY TUCK-IN: What a day!!! Jules didn't disappoint and was raring to go. We saw her land in a a tree in the LY area and she soon took off. We didn't see her after that, but she's likely loving her new-found freedom. She shall return to the nest. It may be tomorrow or a day or so later. She's a confident and strong eagle. ... "

Rip 2020

+August 07 - Baseball Park Nest - Missoula - Mont : Osplet BPNx one of the three Louis (ex Iris's mate) and Star's chicks.

After two eaglets, CSN1 & CSN2, Eaglets from Caloosa School Nest, LE103, Cape Coral, Fla, 03-16-2020, viewtopic.php?p=300810#p300810 , now this is the turn of an osplet wich impaled its wing on a lightning rod.

Reported by Heather L : viewtopic.php?p=368535#p368535

one of Louis and Star's chicks ... was injured and rescued at the baseball park nest Missoula Montana
It landed on one of the stadium lights & impaled its wing - the fire dept was able to rescue it & took it to a rehab

:vid: from the rescue from NBCMontana : https://nbcmontana.com/news/local/injur ... n-missoula

MISSOULA, Mont. — It was a team effort to rescue an osprey at Missoula's Ogren Park baseball stadium Tuesday evening. Firefighters were called out to help reach the injured bird at the top of the stadium lights.
We're told the bird may have impaled its wing on a lightning rod and got caught.
Missoula Paddleheads stadium workers said the bird was one of the fledglings of this year's trio of new babies.
The bird was taken to a raptor center for rehabilitation

I saw this on the Dunrovin Osprey Nest :( \
Sad news of the fledgling from Ogren Park. 😢 RIP young one and fly free and high.

08/07/2020
Wild Skies Raptor Center
I’m writing this post in regard to enquires we’ve had about the fledgling Osprey at Ogren Park. After having our veterinarian assess the wound we decided to euthanize the poor Osprey due to the location of the wound and the amount of damage to the wing—the wound could not be surgically closed. This decision is never easy to make. It is, unfortunately, a part of wildlife rehabilitation and there are many factors that we must consider. The bird’s well-being, quality of life, and ability to survive in the wild are always our first concern. All birds are humanely euthanized according to the American Veterinary Medical Association Euthanasia guidelines.
It is also unfortunate that this is not the first time this has happened. ...

Personal thoughts. It had been trotting in my head for a little while. but sorry little one, it is too late for you and for so many others. :cry1: :cry1:
I begin to have a big problem with the term "humanely euthanised". I can understand it if there is nothing to do against the suffering, the end of life, if life is not worth living but who can decide? Some amputate and let live, no longer in freedom, it's true, but life is sacred even that of animals and some find it can be beautiful despite everything without being able to fly. Ask Bailey or Smedley and so many others ...! I also :luck: hoping it won't become so systematic in humans because i think it gets overkill for animals and i promise you that is'nt necessarily a panacea.

Rip little guys, forever in our heart. :rh: :cryhanky:

Having a special link in my heart to osprey and that nest in particular, your thoughts are appreciated Philjo. I like that you speak up.

:vid: Fate of the Two Missing Condor Chicks - September 11, 2020

Ventana Wildlife Socety’s Condor Program
We are saddened to share the news that two of the five condor chicks previously reported as being in harm’s way have perished in the Dolan Fire. Three of the five condor chicks survived, including “Iniko,”
as well as chick #1033, who was rescued from a cliff’s nest that was directly in the path of the fire’s advance. Iniko was named by the public while viewers around the world watched this chick and its parents on live-streaming camera provided by explore.org. While the loss of every California condor is tragic, we are also seeing the remarkable resiliency of the next generation of condor chicks. There are still nine missing free-flying condors since the time of the fire on August 21, 2020 but we remain hopeful.

As the condor population continues to grow and their range continues to expand, catastrophic fire events like this one are less likely to have a significant impact on their recovery. Thanks to Condor Program Recovery partners, releases of new condors raised in zoos will occur despite the loss of the Big Sur Condor Sanctuary. A cohort of nine condors will be transferred to central California next month and seven of these will be released in San Simeon, California and the other two at Pinnacles National Park.

That is so sad Philjo.....I also cry for the loss of a lot of animals we do not know in those fires.

Rip 2020

+ October 08 - Orange Falcons Nest - Australia : Falconet OFx one of the two Diamond and Xavier's 2020 osplets.

3 eggs, 2 falconets. Some saw a part of the shell of the egg stucked on it's belly. Was it the cause why it seemed to have some problems eating and was often on it's back. We don't know. I saw one of it's last movement around 18h44.

Like i wrote in the Eagle chatters Nest thread: The 3 days old tiny one "took one last breath, opened his wings and flew away silently, leaving his sibling, Mother Diamond, Father Xavier, and all of us, all alone. RIP little one, you are not alone and will never be." :cry1: :rh:

very close to its sibling, just under Mom's left wing and at the moment its little soul left its body.

Rip 2020

+ October 12 (around 08h20) - Port Lincoln Ospreys Nest - Australia : Osplet Tap the younger of 3 osplets.

Until 2 or 3 days before everything was fine in this nest apart some gentle bonks during the meals but Tap was very well fed each days. Suddenly, all changed. The bonks were stronger, the two olders (twice Tap's size) blocked its acces to the food and then its long agony and its suffering cries have begun. That last night, its mother's heat calmed him down a little, but it was already too late for the little one. A little bit active early this morning, i saw one of Tap's last movement around 08h20. All was done.
Your ordeal is over, Tap.
