SWFL Eagles - Remembering Ozzie... Eight Years Later ❤️

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RftkdAQNo3o

Ozzie was Harriet's first male; The King! He is and will always be sorely missed...
On March 17, 2015, Ozzie was found by Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) officials and taken to the Clinic for Rehabilitation of Wildlife, Inc. (CROW) for evaluation after showing signs of disorientation and injury. After 97 days of care to recover from a broken left clavicle and a broken left coracoid bone, Ozzie was released back into the wild near the nest. On Saturday, September 19, Ozzie made an appearance at the nest. On September 27, after seen fighting with a male eagle in the area, Ozzie was found injured and again admitted back into CROW's care. On Tuesday, September 29, Ozzie died.
( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Southwest ... _Eagle_Cam )
p.s: the male seen fighting with in the area, was FV/M5!
p.p.s: Ozzie, fly high and free of any pain with your Harriet, forever!

🙏 🙏 Chicago, Illinois. Tragic end for thousands of migratory birds 🙏 🙏
 :cry1: :cryhanky: :brknhrt:

From https://www.facebook.com/fieldmuseum

Field Museum
4 d ·

Nearly 1,000 birds died after striking the windows at McCormick Place convention center on October 5: the most Field collecting efforts have documented in the past 40 years.
Every day in the spring and fall migration seasons, our scientists and volunteers have gotten up at sunrise in search of birds that have flown into the center’s windows. 🌃
When birds survive collisions with windows, the Chicago Bird Collision Monitors help bring them to wildlife rehabilitation centers to heal from injuries. 💙
When the birds don’t survive, their bodies are brought to the Museum, where they will be processed, cleaned by the museum’s flesh-eating beetle colony, and become part of our collection to inform future scientific research. 👏
In recent years, data from these collections have provided evidence that many migratory birds are shrinking due to climate change. They’ve also helped scientists make the case for turning off city lights to help migrating birds: Illuminated windows can disorient birds, resulting in more collisions. 💡 ⚠️

Merci Pascale to let me know this sad news :( :cry1: :brknhrt: :cryhanky:

RIP 2023

10-02-2023. From Karula National Park, southern Estonia. Blackstork, Dad Karl II. Beloved mate and Dad.

Dad Karl II a very precious and an awesome Dad always protecting and taking care of his family. He raised Black Storklets with at least two different mates, Kati and Kaia.

Karl II was the 7192 "Kalvi", 7193 "Kiire" and 7194 "Kerri"'s 2023 Dad,
also
the #718W Waba, #718V Voogs and #718X Ixs's 2022 Dad without forgeting Bonus #7184's 2022 foster Dad.

I am so sorry to tell of very bad news about Karl II.
He has died in Turkiye. His transmitter shows data that suggests he died on October 2, 2023. As there may be a chance to recover the transmitter, Karl's exact final location will not be made public yet. We suspect that electricity power lines may have caused his death.

Dear Karl II. He was a wonderful home builder, father, provider of food and shelter, I think he may have needed a lot of patience with his lady but between them they were remarkable parents.

11-01-2023 we learned that Kaia was present beside him during his last moment... :( :brknhrt: :cry1: :cryhanky:

🙏 Dad Karl II 🙏 :cry1: :brknhrt:

Many messages from all your human friends

Hulbi Lorm » I have no words. You will never be forgotten, Karl II. It was wonderful to "know" you.

Francesca_V »  Byebye, Karl II.

ILind » I am so sad…. Karl II you were a wonderful stork and such a amazing father. I will never forget you!

Anne7 »
This is a great loss.
Poor Karl II. You were a perfect and very talented male.
You were an exceptional bird, a good father, a very diligent and caring Black Stork.
And you loved your precious Princess so much.
You raised wonderful and strong chicks together.

It’s extremely sad.
We love you, Karl II. We love you very much.
We will miss you. I already do.
I know for sure that Kaia will miss you too. Poor Kaia. 😢

akle » Very sad to receive the bad news of Karl's death. He has been so impressive as a provider of food and shelter for the chicks. Nature will surely provide a solution for princess Kaia in due time, maybe we will see that in Karula next year?

HelenL44 » Karl was truly the heart of this BS family. I remember how eager and loving he was the first year he and Kati were mates. He courted her and dumped moss on her frequently. He appeared wondrous at his storklets and was such a hard-worker to provide food. Both Kati and Kaia struggled to provide and stay with the young; perhaps they knew Karl would prevail. Such tears I have for the loss of Karl, so sad and feeling deeply his going when I was so excited watching him migrate. Rest in peace, Karl.

Jo UK » HelenL, thank you for those happy memories. Yes, Karl was a joy to know.

Nala » How sad, I have no words, only tears. Karl II was a wonderful father and partner.

fussel » Oh no, you don't want to believe that. Karl II, we will NEVER forget you.

Lynxy » After being a silent follower of this forum for years and a huge fan of Karl - I finally decided to register couple of days ago and today logged in to read such a sad news :*( Such a loss for black storks population :( Fly peacefully in bird heaven Karl.

asteria »
It is so sad to hear! KarlII managed to fly through dangerous war zone but became a victim of power line!!! Again in Turkey, like Raivo and many other storks. What an injustice! This month brings nothing but misfortunes and disasters.

Florinda » I still hope this is a mistake

roneteus » Gah, I don't wanna believe this. Karl II's loss is huge to the black stork community around the world. He's done such a great job over the years. Devastating.

Askja » Dear Karl II... 😥
I am sad and angry. It seems to me that the greater part of mankind would rather live in a world without birds than in a world without deadly power lines.

Francesca_V » Yes, Askja, It is not even necessary that these power poles or power lines harm birds: there are so many ways to secure poles that nothing happens to birds. It is now practiced in Germany, and probably in other European countries too.

alisa » Karl 2

onerlrlgn » So terribly sorry to hear that Karl II has died. 💔
He was such a great nest maker, mate, provider and Papa. He diligently worked overtime to make sure his storklets were properly fed and stuffed up to their Beaks as to prepare them for their long solo journey of their first migration.
We know that this is such a long and treacherous journey for Black Storks to endure due to the many dangers, whether it is vast barren deserts, contaminated water supplies, Deforestation Loss of Habitat, Electric Power Lines, Poachers, Motor Vehicles or Predators to name a few.
And especially this Autumn Migration Season Route with the numerous active War conflicts of most countries along the path from the Ukraine, Turkey, Israel, Jordan, Ethiopia, Sudan to Central Africa.
Only one of the many dangers listed above (Predators) are in the Natural Order of Nature. ALL the other dangers are due to Human Beings. MANkind - kind = MAN!
~Rest In Peace~ Karl II
Soar to the Heavens with Ur Family

Another 1 more stab wounds straight to the :rh: heart. I thought that afterwards we removed them and that there was no trace of them but in fact they continue to accumulate... :brknhrt: :brknhrt: :brknhrt:

By dint of enduring and sharing these pains, these sorrows, this sadness and all these tears with all our little feathered friends, young or old, for that matter, maybe one day I will have to withdraw completely for an indefinite period because that season has been particularly terrible despite some wonderful and happy successes.

It is possible that I scatter a little too much in the different nests or there is a real hecatomb this year in terms of the survival of the chicks. Considering what I read in the various forums, I think more for the hecatomb.

20 July 2020, after getting a transmitter

He is gone

You can shed tears that he is gone
Or you can smile because he has lived

You can close your eyes and pray that he will come back
Or you can open your eyes and see all that he has left

Your heart can be empty because you can’t see him
Or you can be full of the love that you shared

You can turn your back on tomorrow and live yesterday
Or you can be happy for tomorrow because of yesterday

You can remember him and only that he is gone
Or you can cherish his memory and let it live on

You can cry and close your mind, be empty and turn your back
Or you can do what he would have done: open your eyes, love and go on

He is gone - A poem by David Harkins

Karl II and Kaia travelled together until Karl II's death. That, too, is extraordinary!
Kaia spontaneously flew north at the time of Karl II's death and she probably gathered herself first
and then continued her journey south consistently.

Thanks @JoUK and @Anne7 !

They flew together and Kaia was a witness of the tragedy. asteria

It's amazing that Karl II and Kaia flew the last stretch together, together until the end, sad, for Kaia. Karl II you are not dead until you are forgotten, and I won't do that, because you were a special bird, rest in peace. Nala

🙏Andria🙏 1/2

RIP 2023

12-08-2023. Kistachie National Forest E-3 Nest, Louisiana. Bald Eagle †Andria†.
.
🙏Andria🙏, Alex's mate, 2eggs of around 20do inside the nest but Andria wasn't able to assume her duty and so probably the eggs were already nonviable.

Andria has been ill and experiencing seizures since yesterday (12-06-2023). Tonight, she experienced another seizure and lost control and fell off her nest. The cam operators have been prepared to help and have found her on the ground via the canopy cam. Cody and Steve are making plans to rescue her as soon as possible and if she is found alive will take her to the LSU vet school. Andria is a very ill raptor and she needs all our prayers tonight! I will keep everyone posted with updated information on this matter. Andria and her mate Alex have two eggs on the nest.

Breaking news: The rangers will be at the nest in the morning around 07:20am Central time to attempt a rescue. There are three other eagles on this lake along with waterfowl & other birds and it is unknown what has caused Andria's seizures and illness at this time.

In fact the poor Andria died during her contact with the ground. In the early morning two foxes were seen moving Andria's body but only a couple of meters. The ground crew found Andria's body and sent her to a vet hospital to make analyses and necropsy...
