Andria, Alex's mate, 2 eggs of around 20do inside the nest but Andria wasn't able to assume her duty and so probably the eggs were already nonviable.Almost in the same time, Alex was incubating their two eggs as he did every morning without knowing what happened to his beloved Queen

We have received word from the Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine's Wildlife Hospital that the results from Anna (E-1 Female) were inconclusive as to whether Anna had Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI.) Upon learning this, the veterinarian went to retrieve Anna's body from the freezer to run a second test and learned that Anna's body had been incinerated. This news is very disappointing to us all as we really wanted to know what had made Anna ill. Based on clinical science and the symptoms she presented on New Year's Day, the veterinarian did say he believes Anna was infected with Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI.) Another female eagle from nest E-3, Andria, died earlier in December and we are still waiting on her necropsy results. We have called the facility in Georgia where she was sent and they do not have any results yet. These tests take weeks to perform and we were told once they reach a determination, Andria will be sent to another USDA facility for confirmation of the diagnosis, so this may take months before we receive any results. >sigh<
We understand your frustration and disappointment, as we feel the same way. We have lost two beautiful mama eagles that we have all come to love and have no definitive answers as to what killed them.
We will keep you posted when we do hear back about Andria's results. Meanwhile, in the next weeks, we will learn all we can about HPAI (how long does it linger, how is it spread, why some succumb and others do not, is there anything we can do to stop the spread, etc.) We will also continue to watch the happenings at E-1 and E-3. Looks like the new pair at E-3 may decide to move in permanently. ❤

During your last fall, †Andria† like an Angel, you unzipped your feathered down coat and your soul flew away to the Heavens where you were welcome, i'm sure by all the bald eaglets who shared the same fate as you, leaving us alone so early. May be you were welcome by some of your family older members and offsprings

Now you are flying among the stars, marvellous †Andria†.

†Andria†, Fly high and freely with your two offsprings and protect your family, Alex your mate, your live and flying eaglets from the previous season. Do not forget us too as we will need your help too to spent this hard moment without you. Don't forget also, God has certainly a new and beautiful mission for you .
. Dear †Andria†, I hope you didn't suffer too much during your last moment fall as it is said you died at the contact with the ground. I'm sure the big pain you had in your head stopped very quickly. Now you are a free soaring bald eagle with a full crop forever and will never be alone and always with your two little guys who will never hatch... as you aere far from them a too long time with your illness.

Another 1 more stab wounds straight to the
heart. I thought that afterwards we removed them and that there was no trace of them but in fact they continue to accumulate... By dint of enduring and sharing these pains, these sorrows, this sadness and all these tears with all our little feathered friends, young or old, for that matter, maybe one day I will have to withdraw completely for an indefinite period because that season has been particularly terrible despite some wonderful and happy successes.
It is possible that I scatter a little too much in the different nests or there is a real hecatomb this year in terms of the survival of the chicks. Considering what I read in the various forums, I think more for the hecatomb.
